Happy Birthday To You!
Warm and sticky morning here, 88-90 which means my house will be very very warm today without the AC working right.
Cooking dinner for my friends parents anniversary tonight. Eight people.
- A single seared jumbo scallops wrapped in pancetta served with a champagne cream sauce
- Baby organic greens, olives, and roasted artichoke hearts in a light roasted lemon vinaigrette
- Osso Bucco with a mash of parsnips, celery root and potatoes
- Coconut custard with a raspberry and orange sauce, served in martini glasses with candied orange peel and fresh raspberries
- Also taking the couple a small coconut cake for just them
- They also have their own wine, and cocktails (they drink martinis) and no coffee, but brandy for dessert and they have that as well.
They have a beautiful home and all the china, so I am just setting everything up. I am picking up some flowers and making 3 small low vases of white and pink baby roses to go with their white china and table cloth. I did rent some silver chargers to go under the white plates and I made a table runner out of a pale pink and white wide striped silk material.
I also picked 6 small silver frames and had black and photos made of the couple and their friends over the last 50 years; also silver candle holders (their own)
The couples joining them have been friends since college and were also the wedding party. Also, their first dinner was osso bucco and their wedding color was pink and white; and their wedding cake coconut. So, you get the idea.
It should be very nice.
Me:
Well, I will be cooking and cleaning the dishes, so nothing for me; but they insisted I eat. I will probably just take a container of soup I can heat up while I'm there; or I may grill some chicken this afternoon to have when I get home.

Today it is 20 degrees warmer than yesterday, with occasional bursts of rain. I'm doing two shows, but between shows we're heading over a couple of blocks to our Festival of the Arts for whatever food booths have the shortest lines. Based purely on geography, it's looking like either the Greek Orthodox Church, the Bosnian Cultural Center, or maybe the Antiochian Orthodox Church. Serving souvlaki and baklava; burek, shish kabab and gyros; and shawarma respectively.

Edit:
Catering it was, and what a flying trip through! It ended up being less than 15 minutes from when the last person left the inner arena until the first person walked in. In retrospect, I should've taken a to-go box and just come back up to the booth.

Anyway...roasted broccoli, carrots and cauliflower; rosemary roasted potatoes, Dijon chicken; lamb something-or-other I couldn't pronounce or hope to spell; creamed carrot or chicken noodle soup; KILLER salad bar, with not just the usual but avocado slices, olives (kalamata and green), cottage cheese, bleu cheese, and ham. For dessert, probably the moistest vanilla cupcake I've ever had the great good fortune to put in my mouth, frosted with what can only be described as heavenly whipped cream.

Catering was a blast last night; great people and everyone had a wonderful time. I cleaned up everything except dessert dishes which they said they would take care of. I ended up taking leftovers and just ate in between courses.
Today ...
Soup Day: Potato which I didn't make this past week / Bread Day: Italian in the ABM
Dinner: Leftover ham from Fri, onion, veggies, and cheese in a Quiche type of pie; tomato slices

And today's selection is: Spanish rice, spicy chicken breast (not-so-spicy, really), some kind of ground beef concoction with peppers and potatoes, roasted vegetables (zucchini, asparagus, green beans, carrots), again with the salad bar to die for, and for dessert...Chinese takeout containers filled with mini candy bars, M&Ms, etc.
