What Are You Reading 2022
Re: What Are You Reading 2022
So far so good, it has its twists and turns and makes me want to continue reading.
It is about a female FBI agent trying to solve missing young woman cases.
Nuf said go read it!

'The Second Mrs. Astor: A Heartbreaking Historical Novel of The Titanic' by Shana Abe. I have to agree with the reviews "Abé is an exquisite storyteller. Rich in detail and deeply moving and One of the most beautifully written books I’ve ever had the pleasure to read. A gorgeous, phenomenal novel I won’t soon forget.”
In the reading one is taken back to the era of the gilded age, history of a time of untold wealth, inequality and excesses. I purchased ' Mrs. Astor Regrets:Hidden Betrayal of a Family Beyond Reproach' back in February, it got set aside, just as well It is best read as a follow up to the 'Second Mrs. Astor'
This morning I added 'The Last Mrs Astor: A New York Story' by Frances Kiernan to my library.
Meanwhile searching and looking for suggestions for something light hearted and funny.

I have read 'Mrs Astor Regrets' by Meryle Gordon. It is very well researched and very detailed but I had to agree with several other reviewers far too much so. One lot of history but for me found much of it Information overload!
I followed up with 'The last Mrs Astor' by Frances Kiernan. I quite liked this Mrs Astor, but admittedly I can't even imagine the multi millions and millions and the lifestyle of the Astors and their friends. Reading this book one thing rings true - money cannot buy happiness.
Looking for a change of pace while waiting for my hold on 'These Silent Woods' by Kimi Cunningham Grant a book said to be a mesmerizing novel of suspense that may give 'Where the Crawdads Sing' a run for its money. I am about to start what I hope is a light heartened and funny read, Garreth Russel's 'Do Lets Have another Drink!:The Dry Wit And Fizzy Life of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother ' Hoping it is all that it is said to be!

Last nights predicted 'feels like 52 below' here in Saskatchewan I cannot imagine anyone surviving in the middle of nowhere with little more than a parachute, an old boy scout knife and 40 matches he had picked up for a fellow crew member and the clothes on his back, even surviving overnight in severe sub zero temperatures in snow covered wilderness seems a small miracle.
I was expecting more day to day week to week details but it is said Leon Crane was very reluctant in sharing his experience with others. It is an amazing story with additional interesting facts about Alaska but I as some other reviewers felt the author added too much in the way of unrelated material. That said is an amazing story of survival enduring extreme cold and walking out often in hip deep snow fifty one days later!

I started The Lost Girls of Willowbrook: A Heartbreaking Novel of Survival Based on True History by Ellen Marie Wiseman -- but this is a bit much for me and even though I paid for this book rather than it being a library loan -- I seriously doubt I will be able to finish it, but we'll see. It is about a 16 year old girl, Sage (told in her voice) finding out her twin sister, Rosemary (who I guess is identical) was sent to an insane institution years ago and the girl went to find her and ended up in the institution being mistaken for her twin who escaped the hospital-- horrible circumstances. It gives me shivers when I read it, but it has excellent reviews, so we shall see.
Next interlibrary loan: The Prisoner: A Novel by B.A. Paris. A psychological thriller which I usually enjoy, but we shall see how this goes.

I finished "Do Let's Have Another Drink!: The Dry Wit and Fizzy Life of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother" by Garreth Russel. While I did not find it side-splittingly funny it was a good read with "an informative history with royal family intrigue." So unlike the last Queen Mother book I read, 'The Queen Mother 'by Lady Colin Campbell' this one sees her as kind, gentle and loving.
I am now reading ' They Called Me Number One:Secrets and Survival at an Indian Residential School' by Bev Sellars. "In this frank and poignant memoir of her years at St. Joseph's Mission, Sellars breaks her silence about the residential school's lasting effects on her and her family."

On the plus side my recommend for the Lindbergh Nanny: A Novel by Mariah Fredericks went through and I am next in line!
Re: What Are You Reading 2022
My next read is a memoir by Catherine Ehrlich ' Emma's Passport: One Woman, Two World Wars and a Legacy' "Part intimate memoir, part historical thriller, Irma’s Passport is an inspiring true story about remarkable women whose unsung courage restored the world we know."
