A unique Thanksgiving dessert.

Post by Bel-Canto » Thu Nov 17, 2011 2:28 pm

(I posted this request on the *other channel* too  ...but I figured that the more ideas I got, the better.)

I am always responsible for the bulk of Thanksgiving dinner (which I love doing). Our dinner is always a traditional one (Turkey and/or ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, yams, etc.) but my niece makes the dessert for our dinner -- I provide her with the recipe and she shows up with the finished dish which is very nice. (She's an accomplished cook so I get to pick anything that I want.)

In the past, for example, she has made a complex fruit compote to spoon over ice cream and last year I had her to make a Boston Cream Pie which was quite delicious, (and somehow I had never tasted Boston Cream Pie before so that's why I chose it.)

So what I'm looking for is a very nice dessert, something somewhat aside from the traditional but still a dish that most of my dozen or so guests will enjoy. This year, my mother-in-law is also bringing along two big cherry pies so anyone who doesn't go for the *new* dessert is covered.

Fire away and thanks in advance! :D

I don't have a recipe, but what about a pumpkin trifle? Layers of pound cake, pumpkin seasoned as for pie filling, pudding, and whipped cream?

Or individual pumpkin parfaits with gingersnaps layered with pumpkin and whipped, sweetened cream cheese?

Pumpkin trifle would be very pretty too!

Or how about (although I don't care for the term) a Pumpkin Dump Cake style dessert, with a nice cream cheese/whipping cream/cinnamon topping

I make a gingerbread trifle, but pumpkin is great too.

I have made this and it was very good

I also love pumpkin flan which can be made individually.

I guess non-traditional would be the keyword here. I love pumpkin desserts but that's what they expect to eat -- I want to surprise 'em!
