After having gone to the grocery store yesterday, and purchasing enough for 2 Thanksgiving meals, lo and behold I got the heads up last night, that things may be changing once again~ sigh~
I know I am at least making a Pecan Pie, a Pumpkin Pie, Pumpkin Cake Roll and Pumpkin Praline Ice Cream.
Pumpkin Crunch Dessert for Hubbys workers this week, too.

I LOVE pumpkin in everything...except pie....I just hate the texture of pumpkin pie. Cookies, bread, cake, bars, even pumpkin butter yes please but no pie. This year I am cooking for 2 but it may turn into 4 or 5. I am making pumpkin cheesecake and something chocolate, that is yet to be decided. I am not a fan of cooked fruit, so no apple pie for me. I may have to make one for my fiance though, his favorite.

When I lived closer to my family ( we are 50 ish in number) our dinners were always potluck, and everyone brought several dishes. We always had a table of desserts, yes a table. Everyone always divided up the leftovers so we all had a variety of desserts to take home. My whole Thanksgiving menu is still to be finalized except the pumpkin cheesecake & turkey with loads of stuffing (my absolute favorite part of the whole meal) and sweet potatoes....rest of the menu is a work in progress

I, too, Foxy, am a lover of ALL things pumpkin, including the pie.

Nice idea of having a Potluck Thanksgiving! That takes so much stress of of the cook.

And MaMere, will you even have time to enjoy the holiday, with all that baking? :o

Swede, when my family gets together for any occasion it's always potluck. When I was a small child (before all my aunts & uncles were married and had their own families) dinners would be at my grandmother's house, and my mom, grandma, and a couple of my aunts always did the whole meal in one place. As the families grew now we travel to different places, and everyone brings some stuff. We usually call each other to find out who is making the turkey and stuffing (usually the host) and everyone else brings stuff. We all have our specialties that are expected (my Aunt Sharon's Coconut Cake, my Aunt Martha's Sweet Potato Casserole, my Aunt Heather's Cornbread, my Mom's Dressing come to mind) but we have a lot of wiggle room for sides and desserts.

Summer picnics & BBQ's are the same, we all bring some meat of some kind on the grill it goes. it takes a LOT of pressure off of anyone trying to make sure everyone is covered, and with so much variety you can skip the things you don't like

Yes ma'am, I am blessed. I also know that my grandmother is 86 and won't be with us that many more years, so I treasure the memories I have with my entire family buncha nuts that they all are. I also know once my grandmother is no longer with us, these big family affairs may not happen (since some in the family do not get along).

As long as you're prepared for it to end, Foxy, you'll enjoy each moment even more. Sadly, that identical scenario happened to my father's side of the family, which is where we always went for every holiday. My Great Grandmother had every holiday meal at her home and we'd have close to 50 kids and adults there. No sooner did she die, then G.Grandpa passed 2 months later and we NEVER had a joint holiday again. No hate. No arguments. Just lack of follow-through. Everyone kept bemoaning the passing of the tradition but no one ever stepped up to take over the reigns. I lost track of everyone.

MaMere: My chef hat off to you!!! We're ordering in for Thanksgiving this year; I'm too busy decorating homes for Christmas to cook. Gotta be done in 2 weeks time 'cause we boogie on over to Scotland in December! :D
