but we were shopping and found a nice stainless steel one. What type roaster do you use? I know the stainless steel would hold the heat well but if it 'aent broken dont fix it.

For turkeys and such I have a large white graniteware one. For pot roasts, I have a very nice retro cast iron version that was made for roasts and the lid doubles as something to set the roast on and drain off fat.
I also have a graniteware roaster like the one in the picture, which I used to use more. I used to have those in 2 sizes but the movers crushed it during my move from Mississippi to Florida and I never replaced it.
I don't have a stainless roaster but I do have a huge stainless paella pan that can hold a small roasting rack if needed. I have a couple of clay bakers that would hold large roasting hens or hams as well.

that's what I use Ahmafor3 I'm not sure how it does it but it manages to brown the turkey really well as long as you have the cover on it, I love that roaster!

I'm using two sizes of graniteware pans (mine are the dark blue with white specks) that used to be my grandma's. Never used stainless steel for roasting, but then I've never had to.

I use that roaster also and I have three sizes and I use them all the time, I've never used stainless steel but I have seen them in the stores, does stainless cook differently? :?

I got myself one of those dark ones a few years back and love it I've used a number of times for roasts and chickens, mine is a fairly small one I'm thinking of getting a larger one for a small turkey, the only thing I hate is the clean up after, you need to use steel wool to clean it and that's even after spraying it with vegetable spray

Jimber, I've never had to scrub mine. On the off chance something is stuck, I either soak it or boil some water in it. Comes right off with the mesh side of my dishcloth. I do always use a wire rack under whatever I'm roasting, though.

I wonder if that's the difference between my 70-year-old pans and newer ones, though, now that I think about it.

I have one of the classic pans too. I love it. It was my grand mothers. It is so old, but works great. I also got a nice stainless one with a rack for Xmas from my Aunt. I do like it. I have used it for my turkey, and it still came out good. I use that because it is bigger for birds larger than 14 lbs which I often make.

Both work great, but the old pan has worked for years, I would of never bought a new one, but as a gift, I was happy.

Where is my post from last Night???

It said we use a Granitware (Specalware) that was my grandmothers on my mothers side. My mom remembers it being used when she was very young and she is now 82, so it has to be atleast 80 years old or more.

I have noticed occasionally that if while you are typing your post, someone else posts, then when you click enter, you might think you posted but it comes back with that "someone else has made a post" and yours will still not be posted. I think it's so it gives us a chance to add anything to our posts if we want to from what the next person had said, but overall I find it an annoyance because I have left the page and lost the form content a number of times without realizing what happened.
