Reviews vs. Comments
Post

What am I to think about a five star review that says "This sounds good" or "I'll try this soon"?
Couldn't we separate "comments" from "reviews"? I know we're a new site and everyone wants to dive right in, but the pattern we set now may be with us for a long time.
Does this bother anyone else?

The comments don't bother me Kitten, and I've commented on recipes myself, but I never
rated the recipe before I made it. Sorry I wasn't clear.
I always read reviews and hope to avoid problems with a recipe based on the experience other cooks have had with it. Knowing that someone else likes the idea of the recipe is just less helpful, that's all. If no one else notices the difference, I'm glad to go along and get along.

I guess stars explain my feeling about the recipe

And that means a lot to us, Kitten. Comment away any time you feel like it!

I agree with you Mary. I too get annoyed when someone will give 5 stars for something they haven't made but yet sounds good to them. They're only basing their comment on what sounds good to them. I don't think that's right. The next person who comes along and actually makes the recipe and doesn't care for it could leave a 2 star review. There's quite a difference between leaving a comment and actually making the recipe.

Thanks for posting Sue. I'm just going to read the reviews with the thought that they might just be a comment and not a review.
Just FYI -- I tried to post just a comment on a recipe here today (to the effect that I've been looking for such a recipe) and found that a rating is required to submit the post. So, if the recipe strikes me as interesting, I'll just try to send a private message to the member who posted it.

I agree I don't like to see reviews that just say how they feel a recipe might taste as often a recipe will taste a lot different than what it looks like.

well I can say that I have done it in the past and still will continue to do it, if I see a recipe I like and want to try, in my eyes it's a 5 star recipe even before I make it ;)

I never rate a recipe until AFTER I try it. I do comment on a recipe sometimes, but not with a rating, maybe just a comment that it looks interesting, or something to that effect. I think it would be a good idea to be able to comment without a star rating... just my opinion, though.
