I forgot all about Barefoot! Used to be we drank it all the time, and then we discovered Yellowtail and it became what we automatically grab. But Barefoot is good!

Okay, I'm going to sound like a snot and I don't mean to - but to me, Barefoot and Yellow Tail are daily "house" wines - cheap stuff you drink on the patio or with Tuesday night dinner. I thought you were looking for something a bit more gift-ish? Is that a word? Sorry! And yes, I have had both those wines and my "house" white is from a box from Walmart because it's good  But I wouldn't give it as a gift, am I making sense?

OK, so given that... My only recommendations come from the Fair Play wineries I mentioned earlier. I pretty much never buy higher-end wine locally. Or, go with the suggestion to hit your local wine shop and find someone who knows. Not a party store type place that sells everything, but an actual wine shop. Or a party store with an extensive wine selection, and ask to talk to the person who specializes in it.

Sorry! I really love wine and I had to be honest on this one! And I like inexpensive wine too, my house red is Rex Goliath Shiraz and it runs about $5 a bottle on sale. But it's good for every day.

I would honestly do what Felix suggested - find an actual wine shop and then purchase two $10-$12 bottles. That should give her a really nice bottle, but quantity too!

Or you could hit a local winery and do a tasting and go from there

Many times the price of wine doesn't have a thing to do with the quality of the wine. I've tasted some very expensive wines that were horrid! This is a local winery with outstanding wines. http://www.sanantoniowinery.com/buy-wine

My choice in boxed wine is Vella White Zinfandel. To me Franzia has to much of a bite. Love my boxed wine! :D Barefoot is my choice of bottled wine.

I totally agree with that! I bought a Gnarly Head zin awhile back - not expensive, but more than I normally pay for a week night dinner and it wasn't all that great. Then again, the J Lohr that I bought was absolutely some of the best I've had and it was around $18, I think. There again, more than this old penny pincher typically spends, LOL!
