And Shadows would be correct! It was used for roasting coffee beans over a kitchen fire. The coffee beans were placed inside and the roaster had to be turned continuously so the beans would roast evenly.

I believe this is for making sauerkraut. Krauthaubel (sp), crock and a tamper.
