Re: My Kitchen
Yes, the kitchen you grow up in has so many special memories. I have loved being home with my mom. Seeing the the things we used as a kid and she still uses them. (they made things better way back when) She even has a electric skillet that is older than me! It is avocado green and she said she got it when she first moved away from home! She recently told me she wrote the company and told them how wonderful their product has been and how she still has it and uses it weekly after 50 years! It is so old its not immersible in water. (no such thing back then.)Meggins wrote:Lovely photos Felix4067, the kitchen that you grow up in always have very special memories ;)

I love finding stuff like that at yard sales etc. It amazes me how so many of those older appliances, dishes, etc all still work great. So many of the brand new things I have purchased have disappointed me, so now I am going retro. Functional and a huge cuteness factor.Dissie wrote:Yes, the kitchen you grow up in has so many special memories. I have loved being home with my mom. Re: My Kitchen

I still use her electric skillet and percolator coffee pot, neither one of which can be submerged in water. The pans are the ones she's had since well before I was born, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. Other than style, you'd think they were purchased last week.
The only small appliances I've had to replace were the blender, deep fryer, and toaster. What's funny for me is the stove and oven were built into the kitchen in 1962. Other than having to replace the occasional heating coil, the stove has never had problems. A couple of months ago, the top heating element in the oven burned out, so I haven't been able to broil. Baking works just fine. But...we had the guy come out a bit ago, and we've ordered a new oven. Turns out ours was a custom size, so they're going to have to do a bit of remodeling to fit the new one in, but that should happen within the next couple of weeks.

I love all of the old cookie cutters, Pyrex dishes, real Tupperware, etc I have found to use in my kitchen. They all have lasted so long already and I give them a real workout too. I am keeping my eye out for old crockpots and waffle irons too. I finally found a new crock I do like, but I would still love to find a really reliable old model. The old stuff was made well and meant to last. I wish that were the case now too.

You are very lucky to have the originals, FelixFelix4067 wrote:Every time someone tells me I have a cool retro something-or-other, I laugh hysterically. It's not retro, it's how it is. Things are only "retro" if they are new but made to look like the original. The originals are, well, originals.
