Work clothes..REALLY?

The most expensive things in my whole closet are shoes, and these are work shoes. I have found one brand that is comfortable for me to be one my feet all day in, last time I bought 2 pair and they were a buy 1 get 1 for half deal. I shop clearance racks, thrift stores, and refuse to spend huge amounts of cash on clothes. I hate shopping, I hate shoes, and I could never carry a bag that was worth more than I have in my bank account. Since I hate shoes so much, but I do have to wear them (I have a big wide foot, so hard to fit) I do spend more than I like on shoes, but that is the only thing. I am trying to get into the corporate world, $1500 will stock my entire closet, maybe 2 or 3 weeks worth of clothes....I know how to shop

Same here rac, my closet is full of carole l, donna c, anne and calvin, liz, andrienne v, perry e, etc etc. Tons of designers from fancy to target tees. But NO, sales sales and sales. I had a gal at Burdines, now Macys that watched the sales for me. I hit the discount stores, Louie V and Gucci. I picked up 3 piece of gucci luggage for under 300. And just got a few bargains ... 125-225 sweaters and tops, all for 19.99 - 29.99. You just got to watch the sales.

Now, I don't wear the expensive dress clothes, but I still enjoy a nice top to go out in. But I am just as comfortable in a pair of leggins and a tee shirt too. But no matter what it is ... I shop the sales. I couldn't imagine spending that amount of $$ on 1 outfit.

I think they should take the 1,500 they spent on an outfit and spend it on a good shrink

I've never been a Label Person. If it fits well and the price is decent, I buy it. Never really understood why the tag under your collar means so much to people, when nobody even sees it! I guess it's a status thing, but it seems so Cookie Cutter to me!
I collect vintage clothing- I will comb consignment shops for unique pieces. For my son's wedding, I found a pale blue silk sheath, with a delicate lace overlay. Circa 1965, price $35. Alterations, $25. Very "Mad Men"!!
People still talk about that dress- I wore it with a small felt blusher, wrist length kid gloves, and my Grandmother's pearls. It rocked, and my new daughter in law was thrilled!

I'm very label-conscious...but not the way the fashionistas want me to be. To me, the brand name says "union- and US-made quality" rather than "look at me, I spent a ridiculous amount of money on this thing made by children in a sweatshop overseas because a magazine told me I should." ;)

I hear ya Heather. Thats the way I am too. It took me about 10 years to get DH to understand that buying $20 sneakers would mean he would buy them way more often, than spending $60-$80 to get a good pair. He finally gets it now!

When I worked and Lived over in the REAL World (Seattle) I shopped every weekend with my sister. We only bought sales. Nordstroms filled my closet with suits and evening wear. Then they opened the Rack! My gosh, you had to be careful and really look over the garment but my gosh, I got a $600.00 evening suit for $40.00! I loved shopping at the Nordstroms Rack. Shoot, I love Nordstroms period. All my shoes were from Nordstrom too, they are about the best quality you could find in the area, they also would put new tips on the heels for free, just wonderful "stand behind the product" company. Every time I go for a visit I always hit the Rack. You need to get there first thing when they open for the best buys but OH MY GOSH you can really find wonderful deals. They (Nordstroms) also had the best pre school sales for my kids too. I priced many major stores for the kids and the school sale at Nordstroms beat all the other stores and a much better quality too. My youngest daughter was in a Lutheran preschool/grade school and she was required to wear dresses so Nordstroms carried the best little girl dresses back then.

I have never spent that kind of money (from the magazine) on a outfit but I might have after it was on sale for 75% less!

PS living in "Redneck" country it is leggings and plaid flannel shirts nowadays. ;)

You're a bunch of smart shopping gals!!!

What will pull me to a label is the cut and fit of their line. Some labels think all women are flat chested. Others realize some of us are overly endowed. Tadasi cuts everything for women with an ample bustline and rounded butt. Perfect fit for me. Calvin Klein is always cut too "flat" for my shape, unless it's a stretchy sweater or accessories. Jones New York cuts a beautiful suit for curvy women. Nordstrom's "house" brand fits me perfectly in women's clothing, too "flat" in juniors or petites. I really don't care what the label says if the clothes fit. I cut out all labels as soon as I get home with the clothes. I HATE labels biting me.
