Amazing new tastes!

Post by Ninya » Sat Oct 22, 2011 9:43 am

Was at our local Market this morning and a local gamekeeper was there selling his wife's home bakes. Just amazing new ideas and flavours! I bought 2 rabbit and blackpudding pasties, 2 stilton and beef pies (this is a very old English idea and sounds horrid but is lovely and the flavour of the stilton is not apparent, only in a background savouriness) 2 Venison and Cranberry pies and a venison and dark stout pie. I will let you know how they taste, we are having the pasties for supper.

Another great, unusual idea - to me anyway, was pancakes with apple stewed in Advocaat (Eggnog) - what a wonderful idea!!! I think this would be a fabulous ingredient for a cake  Any cake makers out there????

Actually, I think Stilton and beef sounds pretty good, but the one I'd really like to try is the venison and stout pie!

I don't think I've ever tasted Stilton but I bet it is good, and good with beef. My DH made some burgers the other night with slices of Roquefort in the middle of them and they were awesome.

Sounds wonderful Crocus, Stilton is on the same lines as Roquefort but not so soft more crumbly.

That Stilton and Beef pie sounds amazing Ninya.....Of course, Stilton cheese over here costs and arm and a leg. The venison pie sounds good too.
I'd love to know how you enjoyed all your goodies, just so I can drool. :D

Hi Tink, the pasties were nice, the pastry was lovely and short made with lard but the filling was too dense for my taste, made with minced rabbit with large chunks of black pud, would have added a few carrots and swede myself and a bit more pepper but I am being fussy here - DH scoffed it down. The Beef and Stilton pies were superb, deeply savoury with just the merest whiff of stilton on the edge of the taste buds and I will most def be buying more of these. DH is taking the venison and cranberry to work tomorrow so will let you know, I am interested to see if they will be sweet or sour or both. Gawd sounding like a right foodie now aren't I????
