Strawberry muffins

Post by Sue » Sat Sep 21, 2013 1:53 pm

Don't know how many know my muffins have been featured on Christian Science Monitor's website.
http://www.csmonitor.com/The-Culture/Fo ... el-muffins
I saw a contest for them about 2 hours before entries closed, so I tossed them an old one, which some of you guys know won the ready set contest somewhere else.

I also recently won in another contest, for King's Hawaiian.
http://www.kingshawaiian.com/ultimate/
This one has a nice prize (albeit not really a monstrous prize)- $300 restaurant dinner of my choice, a limo ride to and from the venue and a year's supply of Hawaiian bread.
I thought I might have a shot at winning the bread alone and that if I won I'd throw some my daughter's way. She likes their bread.
I think I'll be drowning in all that.
Not sure where yet I want to go eat but it will probably have black truffles on the menu.

I've always liked being in contests just for the challenge. Well, at least when they are not contests to see who has the most friends and/or reviews-votes. There are a ton of those about. For me it has always been about the food and bettering myself as a cook. 8-)
Well, the prizes don't hurt either. ;)

I've started looking at other contests. It sounds like a fun diversion from the ordinary. And if I win, great! If I don't, I still get to eat yummy food. :D

Sue, nice job. Personally, I like the Kings Hawaiian. Makes awesome Hawaiian or Asian burgers. I have used their bread too. NICE.

I like the limo ride as well. Pretty sweet.
I am not a sweet person, muffins on so so for me; for strawberry sounds really good! Very nice. I used to do a few contests a while back; I have been thinking about getting back involved too when I have time.

And, your crab cakes look good, B, just made them.

I love, love LOVE your Strawberry muffins. I make them all the time. I am so happy that you won the contest. How exciting! I can see why this recipe won actually, because they are my favorite by far of any muffin I have ever had. You should be proud of developing this recipe. It has been a winner at my house for a long time, and I thank you muchly for that! :D

Congrats, Sue! I'm admit to being amazed at some of the recipes you create and toss out there for others to try :!: Glad you got the recognition ;)

It's kind of weird and I don't want to sound arrogant saying this, but I actually dumbed the recipe down to make it more accessible to their base and have a better chance of winning. It's the sauce- I don't want it to sound difficult to make. If I had made the sauce out of fresh raspberries I would have shot myself in the foot.
And I am actually lucky that some of the nice sounding recipes in the contest didn't bother to submit a photo, which was part of the rules. Those people made it that much easier.
I will be in contests more often now, after popping in to two and doing well in both. They will just have to be contests where the recipe is judged on its merit. If it is judged on how many unverified reviews or votes one gets, I won't bother to waste my time. Cause I am not doing the kind of things I've seen people do in those. IYKWIM.

I have entered in the Geyser Peak Jarlsberg contest. Wish me luck!
Here's a link to it if anyone else wants to try:

I also put some in to Food52's ongoing contests but I don't really expect anything to happen out of that. It looks like a free-for-all.
