Re: Pre-Summer Grill Fest
I have used this may times and it does work very very well. But you need to take a few precautions.
If you really want that charcoal flavor, but DON'T have a charcoal grill or have the the space for two grills. YOU can grill with charcoal IN YOUR gas grill; and still use it as a gas grill too. This tip was given to me by a BBQ master in Iowa quite a few years ago; and it does work. BUT USE PRECAUTION.
First. You need 2 aluminum pans, 1 is not enough. 13x9 (the disposable kind). A heavy camping pan will also work well too. This is where the charcoal goes.
Second. Disconnect the tank from the grill. Usually it is just a valve to screw off, takes, 30 seconds.
Turn on the grill, once the tank has been disconnected and light the burner to make sure all the fumes are gone.
Add the charcoal to a disposable aluminum pan (self lighting) and set on a piece of foil covering the heating elements on the bottom of the grill. Light and let it heat up - just like normal. Make sure you have vents open on your grill lid.
Once the charcoal is white, cook your food. Let the charcoal cool, and remove the pan and foil which covered the heating element when cooled. NONE of the charcoal should of gotten into your grill. Just in the pan.
Then, remove the pans, hook the tank back up and back to normal.
It works, and works well. But disconnecting the propane is IMPORTANT and making sure no gas is in the lines. It only takes a minute, so make sure to take the time to do that. I actually remove my tank to the side to be safe. Like any grilling ... be safe.
Again, this may not be for everyone, but it is a method that is used often - just be safe.

Anyhoots, I dropped it off to him at work on my way back from camp. He was just going in to work and he was tickled as he ran out of lunch foods and was just going to order out.
Here is the steak that I marinaded in Kit's marinade recipe and Bergy's asparagus recipe at the back of the grill

My zucchini recipe on the grill
I tagged two of these at the Alphabet Soup Recipe Tag Game and the last one is my recipe.
Kit's http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/kitten ... lled-steak

Bergy's http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/roaste ... c-and-lime

Now the sweetest thing about this is that he had no idea I was bringing him something to eat and when I got home I had this lovely little note in the kitchen with a little rose bud on it from our rosebush. Just because.....Sheesh, I feel so loved.....
