Orange Birthday Cake please
I have found icings that contain orange juice that seem too light. This could have had food coloring in it, but was not just a white icing tinted orange.
Does anyone have the correct version of an orange birthday cake with a creamy but firm orangey-lemony icing possibly called Dreamsicle or Creamsicle cake (but not entirely sure - I could be confusing the name).
I might have been a Pampered Chef or Paula Deen recipe - having trouble remembering the exact name.

While that recipe does look very tasty too, it isn't the one I was looking for. I'll save that one too though - thanks for the link. I put it in my cookbookDenise wrote:Ooooh, I LOVE that cake!!! Not a big cake person, but that is my favorite. This is the recipe I'm familiar with - http://allrecipes.com/recipe/mandarin-orange-cake-i/

The icing in that version is the cool whip type, and the one I remember was more like a traditional, soft but still firm icing.

But I am definitely making the first one next week!

Well now that one is getting closer - although the icing still doesn't look quite the right thickness. I saved that recipe as well. I love any citrusy flavored cakes, so at the very least I have two new versions to tryDenise wrote:Hmm, well...there is this one - http://www.food.com/recipe/best-orange- ... cake-36015

Re: Orange Birthday Cake please

I made a buttercream icing a few weeks ago, and added Peppermint Extract that was a huge success with everyones palates.

and.....
For lime cake use lime Kool-Aid and lime Jell-O in place of the orange flavor
SERVINGS 12
INGREDIENTS:
1 (18-1/4 ounces) package lemon cake mix
1 envelope unsweetened Kool Aid orange soft drink mix
1 cup diet 7-Up or Sprite (or can use water, orange flavored water will work well)
3 eggs
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2 (3 ounces) packages orange Jell-0 gelatin, divided
1 cup boiling water
1 cup cold water
FROSTING:
1 cup cold light cream (such as half and half, can use full-fat milk)
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 (3.4 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
1 carton (8 ounces) frozen Cool Whip topping, thawed
INSTRUCTIONS:————————————————-
In a large bowl, combine cake mix, Kool Aid drink mix, 7-Up or water, eggs and oil; beat on low speed for 30 seconds, then beat on medium for 2 minutes.
Pour into a greased 13 x 9-inch baking pan.
Bake in a preheated 350 degrees F oven for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
Using a small-holed straw poke holes all over in the warm cake, then cool on a wire rack for 30 minutes.
Meanwhile in a large bowl dissolve one package of gelatin in boiling water, then stir in cold water; Pour evenly all over the top of the cake.
Refrigerate until completely cold (about 4 or more hours, if you are refrigerating more than 4 hours cover with plastic wrap).
For frosting; in a large bowl, combine the light cream with vanilla, pudding mix and remaining one package of Jell-o gelatin; beat on low for 2 minutes, then allow to stand for 5 minutes.
Using a spatula fold in the Cool Whip topping until thoroughly blended.
Refrigerate until ready to use.
