I have been so busy trying new recipes I've neglected our old fashioned bean recipes - will have to get on it before those recipes go missing!

Thank you Mary, here I was checking for a Pinto Bean recipe and missed this one - your http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/basic- ... variations is my kind of recipe. Printed and in my recipe drawer ready to go! As always your instructions impress.

PS loved the story that goes with it as much as the recipe - you have a wonderful way with words! :D

Thank you for the kind words, ladies. I am always drawn to recipes that have variations and give me ideas to work with, so that one recipe becomes many different dishes. The result is that I try to do that in the recipes that I post. I'm glad you like them. :D

Thank you for sharing your coleslaw recipe in our summer pot luck forum Dot! Made this for our Thursday mini potluck, a real winner at our house. Your recipe has been added along side our favourite coleslaw. I didn't happen to have a head of cabbage on hand but 2 16 ounce packages of slaw mix made for one terrific slaw.

Another I made was a grandma recipe shared by kchurchill5 - there 's something about grandma recipes - they always seem to have that special taste! Unfortunately photos were such that best to go with - it's a dessert with simple ingredients that tastes great! Thank you for stopping over in our summer pot luck KC5! http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/grandm ... dding-cake

Don't worry about pics. I'm horrible at remembering to take them most times.Glad you enjoyed, and the slaw looks great!!

Slaw is always loved at least with my friends for summer. But for me ... If I have hot dogs; I have to put slaw on them. Delicious!! But it does go with everything

It's our August long weekend here in Canada, at our house that means preparing family favourites to add to our little potluck gatherings.

Prepared and ready to go are their favourite dressings.

Two August long weekend mains that are must makes.

Couple of dessert requests that are on for the weekend.

AND along side the Lemonade, a new addition to our Family Favourites Cookbook - a pitcher or two of Derf's awesome Sangria.

Any other Canadians out there having family and friends gather for the long weekend - or for family picnics - or a fun gathering at the lake ... come in and share your family August long weekend favourites. :D

Mary - is your basic deviled egg posted already? Even though you said it is basic and plain, it had some things I never have added before to mine - and I bet they make all the difference. You mentioned dijon and sour cream along with some other things.

I'd love to make some today but am not sure of the proportions. Hopefully you will see this in time. If not, I'll just make them later in the week. DD's favorite is deviled eggs.

I saved a bunch of recipes from this thread - so many good ones to try! I have to try that coleslaw from Dot and the lemony asparagus kc shared. Mmmm.

I guess I should put up a few of my favorites too.

OK here is one I remember my mother making for pretty much any family gathering or potluck:

This one is great and keeps for several days. It is one of my daughter's favorite lunch salads, but it is a wonderful picnic salad too:

Have both your recipes printed Heather, your Ambrosia Salad very similar to our family recipe which is a must come holiday time - looking forward to making your version with the addition of the peaches and the coconut sprinkled on top rather than included in the salad.

Have all the ingredients for your http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/chickp ... mber-salad. The cucumbers from the garden are just so good this summer - will be perfect for your chickpea and cumber salad ... on for tomorrow!

Thank you for stopping by. :D
