Re: New Potluck at Work
I am so happy that people are chiming in! Maybe we could change the title of the forum to Potlucks and Family Gatherings. That is basically what we have been using it for! It might get more traffic and post's. Those summer barbecues are coming up which always calls for you to bring a dish, or most people don't like showing up empty handed!

This is a fun idea for a pot luck. Now, this was a large party; but, obviously you can do it on a smaller scale. This was a family reunion of a good friend of mine. She and her family were moving to England for work; so, we decided to do the family reunion, but make it an around the world experience.
We actually gave each person a dish to make. Like a green salad, vegetable dish, potato, chicken, etc. And, we gave them the country or region to use. And mac and cheese isn't considered Italian; we wanted authentic type of dishes.
There was about 70 people; and it was a blast. A few non cooks got the paper products, generic soda, beer, wine; but, they still had to be from that region. No diet pepsi or California cab. You get the idea.
Then we printed out a card 6x4 I think with a pic of the country or region and put it on a stand in back of the dishes. Then each dish had the name and recipe in front of it. They were all set out according to the county/region.
We had US, Mexico, Canada, Asian (we split that up I think), Polish, German, Irish, Spanish, Italian, Australia, Swedish, and a few others. We had 20 I believe.
It was absolutely a great time. Again, scale it back for smaller groups; but, it really was a great time, and a fun way to try other cooking styles and ingredients.

Re: New Potluck at Work
I need to start planning for our July long weekend, all the while knowing I may or may not have a kitchen to work in or a ceiling over my head. Thinking to some prep and freeze recipes and outdoor cooking.
