Weight Loss

Post by Cranberry » Fri Oct 21, 2011 5:36 pm

Well after losing a bunch of weight I have hit a plateau. I knew eventually it going to happen but I was kind of hoping that the thyroid med I'm on would help me out a bit but it hasn't  So I publicly state I am going to lose ten pounds by the end of November.

Oh this ought to be good!!!! :D

How are you losing the weight, Cranberry? Congrats! I have found that for me, when I have hit a plateau, a night or two in a row of low carb kicks starts things again.

I'm losing with a lot of exercise and kind of a low GI type diet. Limited sugar, no pasta or potatoes (I still eat whole grain bread), lots of veggies and I try to get lots of protein. I don't really like meat very much so I'm here for inspiration. I am still ashamed at how heavy I got but I am very excited that I lost over 100lbs in a healthy way.

I never use to believe in low carb diets but they sure do work! :D

100 lbs, congrats to you, that is fantastic!

My friend just lost 75 and she basically did what you did, moderate exercise a little every day, walking, treadmill, yoga really worked for her. She did low carb, but not NO carb. She still ate pasta or potatoes, but really just limited it. Sandwiches became open face; she ate things like mashed cauliflower mixed with potato for a mashed spuds version; pasta, she used the lower fat, but just cut down on the amounts.

And every morning she ate a grapefruit and every evening she drain a glass of fresh lemon juice and water with a spoon of honey and a mint leave. She swore by it.

Great work Cranberry, that is wonderful!
Keep up the great work!
I heard about 6 months ago that if you take in 30 grams of protein, within 30 minutes of waking, that weight will melt right off your body, without chaning anything else. Sounds easy, BUT, it needs to be high quality protein, and 30 grams isn't always easy to take in....
My Suggestions: Protein Powder mixed with Coconut Milk, made into a smoothie, Cottage Cheese is a BIGGIE for protein gram count! Eggs/Egg Whites cfooked with Cheese
BIG kudo's to you! You can do it!!

Thank you :D That's great about your friend. It sounds like she lost it in a very healthy "common sense" manner which means she is probably going to keep it off. Some people tell me how they are trying to lose weight (ramen noodles for lunch?!?) and I really don't know what to say to them.

Thanks MaMere! I just don't like eggs. I have tried. I am working on cottage cheese. I actually have a container sitting in my fridge right now! It is a wonderful source of protein. That smoothy sounds delicious! I'll look for the powder and coconut milk the next time I shop :D

I think the key thing is moderation. I've weighed the same for years and I do eat pasta, rice, potatoes...just not huge amounts. I could never really do a low carb diet. My lifestyle is meat, veg or salad and carb. Pretty much the old WW plan, you can never stop doing it, it's a way of life.

Denise I think we probably eat fairly similar with the exception of pasta.

This is what I am going for in a nutshell, only it represents my whole day instead of one meal.
http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/news/press- ... plate.html

I do find it hard to explain how we eat now. True low-carbers wouldn't say we are low-carb. It was explained to me that white pasta (which is how I got so big, pasta and bread) is basically like sugar so you have limit your serving size. So I went and measured out one cup of pasta. My reaction was "this is bull *&$*"! A cup of pasta just isn't going to leave me satisfied and I find it so easy to overeat that I decided just to not bother with it. Before I thought "I could never ever ever give up pasta" and now both me and DH are like "wow that wasn't hard at all!".

I still have potatoes in my stew and once a month we have a premade frozen lasagna. We use to have pizza delivered every week and now we have one of these instead http://www.mmmeatshops.com/en/products/ ... 65&catID=5 so we haven't given anything up completely!
