WHAT'S FOR DINNER - MARCH 2014

MARCH - CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?

Part of last month and this I'm really trying to use my freezer and pantry. I have a pretty good stock right now; and, need to use it all up. I'll still be buying dairy, veggies, etc; but I'm pretty set otherwise.

Tonight, I have one last container of mac and cheese with ham in the freezer. It was a 3 cheese macaroni; and, may add a cracker topping too. For dessert, I have some fresh strawberries (it's strawberry season here), served with a little minted sugar.

What are you having for dinner?

Tonight I'm trying QB's #recipe8674, along with some kind of vegetable. And then we're eating the strawberry-cream cheese-cool whip concoction I made last night which we didn't eat yesterday because it needed time to set.

Edit:
Scratch that. I've got leftovers to eat, which I luckily realized before I took the fish out of the freezer. #recipe12144, #recipe3193, and we're still eating the strawberry dessert.

Sounds good Felix. Freezer stash for me too. Trying hard to use all that stuff up; fridge too.

It's strawberry season, so fresh berries, I am enjoying. One of my fave fruits. Giant strawvberries, lol.

Bill picked up some bbq for dinner. My back has been hurting to much for me to be up and around today, so kitchen closed.

March,

Sue, I think the last 2 weeks, I have had the kitchen closed sign up. Your allowed. I hope your back starts to feel better. I have been cleaning my garage out the last few days; and lots of heavy lifting. My lower back and legs are killing me. I know mine is temporary; but, wow does it hurt. Rest up.

Any Oscar Fans? Anyone doing anything special?
I was invited to an Oscar Party; but, I honestly hate the oscars. I just like to watch the pre-show, dresses and actors - and the opening number. Otherwise, NO.

Dinner ...
Lady #4, who I normally make 3 meals for, has company this week. So, I am taking over 2 plates every night starting tonight thru Thurs.
- Hawaiian chicken w/rice; grilled pineapple; sauteed carrots and sugar snap peas

Me, Pizza on the grill - a couple of weeks ago I made 4 small pizzas for the freezer (ham, green pepper, and green olives); fresh strawberries

I watch the Oscars (if I'm allowed...mom doesn't do awards shows) because it's my industry and I know several people who are up for awards. Of course, ours aren't the glamour awards so virtually no one I know gets to accept on TV (many of them were given out already, and are the ones that get a mention somewhere in the middle). But as a friend put it the other day, "The Oscars are like the Superbowl for movie people, and the Tonys are the Superbowl for theatre people." We're both. Of course, we couldn't really care less about what people wear, or who shows up with who, or what hairstyle they choose...we just want actors from "our" movies to win. ;)

Tonight I really am doing QB's #recipe8674, along with some broccoli (frozen, probably just microwaved). I was going to do some rice, but our carbs have been on the high side lately so I'll have to find another vegetable instead.

Edit:
Tonight there is supposed to be a presentation for one of our own, though. She was killed in Georgia filming "Midnight Rider" recently when she was struck by a train. Sarah Jones was 27, and an assistant camera operator on the movie. I'm sure there will also be tributes (and rightly so) for actors who were lost in the last year...but the list of IATSE members lost each year numbers in the thousands. Rarely do we get a mention, because unlike actors, we are "just doing a job".

Breakfast was more brie quesadillas finishing off my piece of brie cheese, lunch was a bit of irish stew leftover.
I pulled out some ground beef to thaw, don't know if that will be part of dinner or I want to make burgers for tomorrow's lunch.

Well, tonight I made apple-mustard pork chops and leftover veggies from the fridge, and cooked up a pot of pinto beans for dinner tomorrow, which also serves as planned leftovers for another meal's ingredients early in the week. Trying to get back into meal planning to climb back out of the weeknight drive-thru trap I've fallen into.
