I have decided on my New Years party menu. I will be making Prime Rib (on sale). I am hoping to grill it & at 15lbs it is going to take sometime with the cold temp. Serving scalloped potatoes, twice baked potatoes, roasted cremini mushrooms, gravy, caesar salad, Yorkshire pudding, crumble fresh veg & homemade dinner rolls. Still have to pick my two specialty drinks. Dessert table being done by the guests. I will set my table today as all the good stuff is coming out
Ninner, send that jet! I want to eat at your house on New Year's Eve.

Meatloaf for dinner here tonight unless I work too late on the taxes.

Morning everyone,

Well it is a little warmer today at 32.7F. We are to receive a storm but I am hoping it will be more rain then snow? Still ice everywhere you walk & that scares me. If it rains we will be able to chip the ice off the surface areas. It was the winds that came in after the snow that turned it to ice.

Church, I do like jello shots as I find them so much fun & creative. Very festive & now I wish to include them for Sat. night. Your weather sounds wonderful & I wish I could enjoy such weather. Why do I continue to live in Eskimo territory? There was a member over at the other place & every year her & Dh spent in Aruba? This member was also the one that won a very special bed in a contest. Any idea on who this was? Anyone?

Felix, I do the same as you & store in a cooler. I put mine in the garage as I am concerned that the raccoons will get into it. I have also found after straining my stock from the crockpot & placing it in a snow bank. That I get a clear stock due to the major fast cooling of the stock. I use to have a second frig but Dh said it had to go as it was old & used a lot of electricity.

Racrgal, the jet will pick you up at 8am. This way you will be here way ahead of 9pm. Setting two more plates will not be a problem. Why am I the only one who has a jet?

Plans for today. Dh is home & I have no idea what time he came in at but he is here. Today he will go & see his car that he had shipped here. Due to the holidays & work this has delayed him. I will be cooking/preparing for the party tomorrow. Thanks to my Mother/Mil I have all the "really" good china/gold ware out. As I said the ladies are "blinging" it but then men will be more jeans & a nice shirt. I will have candels everywhere for atmosphere. I have redone all my plants/flowers that Star has not eaten to reuse. I have also noticed that Star's eating of the plant has upset her stomach. I thought cats were suppose to be smart but not this one.

Dinner will be take out. Curry restaurant or Chinese. I am pushing for the curry & it is closer. Due to the weather & the fact Dh will have to pick up. I think I might win?

Have a wonderful day. I wish you all a wonderful 2012.

Felix when I lived in MI, we always spent Xmas (Mom being teacher and I with school) always had almost 3 weeks off back then. Dad took some time off, my Aunt and Uncle who lived down the road would come down and eat with us; along with Gramps who was next door and one of my friends ... so our fridge like yours was packed during that time. We usually had snow and I think all the beer, sodas, milk, oj, pots of soup etc always stayed outside. One year we woke up to find the cooler under 2' of snow and had to dig it out :o

Morning Nin and everyone else!

I'm like you Nin, when I had a big family or with any party, I decorate well ahead of time. One last thing I don't have to worry about, and it also helps me to have all the right serving dishes out and so I have plenty of room too. That is the last thing I want to have to deal with.

Tonight I am going to be preparing the food I am taking to a friends for their NY's Open House Party. I guess I am catering it, even though it is just a casual thing. She can't cook to save her life (except for the microwave), so she is paying me to make the food vs buying party trays. If there is any baking involved, I write the directions down for her. That she can handle ... I hope. They are picking up wings from a local place (they have awesome wings), and taking care of desserts. I don't even have to set anything up. Just drop off the food - how easy is that? And I told her, I don't have time, so I am cheating and using lots of short cuts, but was fine with that. She just didn't want the typical platters or subs. Most of these dishes were not my idea, but by request.

Making very simple food:
Crab stuffed mushrooms, antipasto skewers (tomatoes, small mozz balls, artichoke hearts, olives, salami, ham, etc), 2 fondues (1 cheese and 1 chocolate), all the sides for both, bread, veggies, small cooked spuds, dried fruits, graham crackers, pound cake, fruits, etc; white bean dip, baked ham dip in a bread bowl, spiral baked ham, small rolls and condiments, 7 layer dip, Chips (there are kids) with onion dip and ranch dip too, roasted red pepper dip, salad stuffed pasta shells, 15 lbs shrimp, steamed in beer and served with 2 sauces, spinach dip and baked artichoke dip.

Most I will make tonight and then finish in the am. Then just drop it off before I got to my friends party. It starts around noon, BBQ out at his ranch/farm. Me ... just wine and lots of raw oysters to grill is all I have to bring.

Tonight:
Lady #1 and #2: Game Night
Wings - they like their baked and fried, so I will make them at their place. Bake some and take my mini deep fryer to make some fried. I have onion rings and fries too (I jazz up frozen Ore Ida brand), they work just as good with less work and the ladies love it. One of the ladies has to have malt vinegar, the other like a mayo mixed with chili sauce and the others ketchup. Got to please them all. Beer cheese soup and stuffed mushrooms. And I picked up their favorite beer, but I'm sure they will hit the martinis too.

Me:
A g/f wants to stop by, so whatever she wants. We will probably grill something, maybe leftovers or just grab some Chinese ... Anything easy.

Enjoy the last 2 days of 2011 Everyone!!

The lady that won the bed would be Pauline Miller. I don't think they spend all winter in Aruba, but they do go every year. Nice!

Dinner, no clue again. Something with chicken, glass of Chardonnay, early night

Denise, do you remember what name she went by on site? I would talk to her while she was down there sounded very nice.

While you are here Denise. The kids want to take a vacation. I told them about the place in Cancun with the Island plus golf cart close by. They are a little nervous about Mexico but it is the cheapest. Please which hotel were you going to stay in? I explained that they could go shopping & to the restaurants due to the many tourists. Also there is a "big" tax charge between Mexico & the Dominican Republic. Plus they can fly out of the local airport.

Church, being here alone last night. I decided to light all the candles to see what it would look like. I have received many camels (candles, lol) from the USA over the years. I moved a few around & I do think I have the ambiance.

I wish I could show you my china & gold flatware. I know I have to get into the photos. I have said this before & thank goodness none of you have held your breath. Mother & Mil have some very fine pieces.

I like the idea that you write the directions down for reheating as I receive so many items & have no idea what I am to do with them?

Dh wanted me to do Fondue but I gave the fondue dishes away. Silly girl. Love the mushrooms & crab! Plus the shrimp then again I know where you live.

I have looked for the "mini deep fryer" with no luck. This would be perfect for Dh & I.

You will love this. Dh leaves in the next 30mins to see the car. I can't find the price list/quote. I am sure it is not my fault but being blamed. Time will tell on that one, lol.
