I have a girlfriend that moved West for her company. They put her in a paid hotel & the packers came in, packed the whole house again paid for by the company. I have always wanted that to happen to me. When I moved to California the company paid for the move and it was the same thing. It was amazing to watch the packers fly through my house. There are some drawbacks to letting someone else pack your things 1) you don't have ANY idea what is in the boxes. They are tagged with a number no labels. 2) they pack EVERYTHING in a room! The shoes you took off when you came in from the snow, the stale bread on the counter and the kitty litter box complete with poo! I was able to retrieve the litter box but the muddy, snowy shoes and the bread made the trip to So Cal. 3) by the end of the day the packers are tired and can be careless with their packing. They threw the waterbed in the bottom of a box and tossed in anything else they hadn't packed. Some of it was glass. The waterbed arrived without any holes but the glass items were shattered.

Thanks, Denise. We love the yard and neighborhood but the house needs some serious updating. Did you get your keys????? :)

Yes, we did! Yesterday around 3 pm. Heading down to start cleaning this afternoon. Some day I WILL buy a new house - that WAS the plan this time - and I won't have to clean up other people's dirt!

Yippeee on the keys! New houses present different challenges than used houses. Out here you get builder beige paint, no window coverings at all, and no backyard landscaping. They also tend to be priced over market value of the same size used house. Not a good value at all. However I would highly recommend building your own home. You've got control over even the smallest things. I had a blast building this house and would do it again if I could!

Good luck with the cleaning, I'm packing again today. 8-)

I have built 3 of my own homes ... however there are still challenges. You move in and although shelves are in the closet of laundry room. Shelves to be lined, more shelves and things to put up. The garage is empty, but shelves to hang, boards to hang for tools; it is nice, because everything is new ... but there still are issues to deal with.

I actually designed my house on a CAD program and picked out everything from where the plugs were, but still ... there is always something.

So buying a home has RE-DO issues, a new home has FINISHING issues and if you are like me and a perfectionist; it takes a lot of work to plan everything, because you try to get as much done as possible when take possession. That includes little things, like paintcolors, paint finishes, all the tile, lights in every room and outside, all the plants, and even all the closet shelf designs.

But congrats, I am sure you both will love it; and it takes time; but oh it is so worth it.

OH, I'm just going on and on ... can you tell I am bored on crutches!!

Actually, I am one who only likes neutral and earth tones, so I'm okay with beige, LOL. All the rooms will be a nice taupe and the bathrooms will be a sage color. And at some point, hardwood floors so it all flows well. And I never like the way people do things, I am an organizer. I always have to change things to be more functional. I am a perfectionist, LOL.

Lighting is SO important to me! And dimmers. Even on the back porch light. I love lighting, LOL. We're going to do track lighting upstairs in the hall because it is dark with a big wall. We figured we can hang artwork on the wall and shine some of the lights on it - also a mirror to make it seem less claustrophobic and reflect the light. I'm having fun already, but now I gotta go clean!

Chicken Little is predicting our weather again. Yesterday we were under a winter weather watch, and now they're saying "severe" thunderstorms and "high winds" as well as advising everyone not to be in high places and stay inside as much as possible. I heard about three peals of thunder this morning around 8:30, and now it's not raining, there is no wind, and the pavement is almost dry. Hopefully yours turns out about the same!

Dinner tonight is leftover crabby au gratin and pea salad. Even though I have the day off, my refrigerator is full and I shouldn't cook any more.

Oh Felix, how I wish I was in your position today. We don't have any leftovers and I don't want to cook. I was just eyeing a can of tuna....
