Sue, nice to see you. Cauli gratin sounds delish. And, an apple festival; haven't been to one in years. Used to have one in MI all the time. As you know, FL doesn't exactly have one. Growing up, I picked apple every Fall at a great orchard. Homemade cider, pies, turnovers; and we took home bushels.
Apple am, butter, and pies of course.
Have fun at the picnic; and the festival, I would love that.

Yeah, this is the historic "Johnny Appleseed" territory. There are orchards within a couple of miles in every direction.

Hi all! Sorry I haven't been posting as much. Tonight's plan is to once again make black bean & corn enchiladas. My BF requests this one a lot ever since I started making it last month. I feel like we have it too often, but it is fairly healthy, economical, and he eats it all up, so I don't mind making it. I still have to nail down a good solid yellow rice recipe that he will eat along with it. I have been mainly relying on packets of yellow rice, trying a new recipe out now and then.

The weather is still very, very hot here with tons of rainy days (but at least the rain duration is short).

Does that count?
It has all the components, so yes, it does count ;)

I'm getting ready to run into town, so I'll probably just pick something up at the grocery deli for dinner, or maybe I'll pick up a Subway sandwich. I know they used to have great meatball sammies, but I don't recall seeing them when I've been in recently. Oh, well, most any kind of sandwich on the herb Italian bread will do. Some good chicken wings also sounds good :D Decisions, decisions

I was going to make pot roast. And then my phone rang at 12:35 with my steward telling me the show decided they wanted me in RIGHT NOW instead of at 6:30. Supposedly they're feeding me since I had to come in six hours early, but no one yet seems to know how or what that might be. I'm kind of hoping they throw me $10 to go get pizza around the corner. Stupid PBR Bullriding!

Sue, up in N MI where we were, same way. N, S, E, and W, seemed to be a cherry or apple orchard. The one farm, I remembered had a guy they drive us to the trees in wooden trailer, he was on the tractor. The trailer had pumpkins in it and basket or bushels small or large to pick the apples. Then their small store had all the apple produce they made. And everything was made fresh there. Home canned and absolutely delicious. On Sunday mornings, after church; they would open up and have free hayrides for the kids; and serve homemade apple muffins with warm apple cider. And, if you bought so many apples, you got a free slice of apple pie. I got so many fond memories of that place.

Dis, I'm getting my cabinets refaced. I've had 3 plans to get them done; and one thing after the other, they got changed.

Deepster, enjoy subway. Try the chicken terriyaki, one of my favorites. Extra banana peppers for me,   We have a place called Wings and Weenies; I know, strange name. But they are known for ... you guessed it wings and dogs. Their wings are delicious. Way better than Hooters, and other places. When, I want good FRIED wings, I will get them. Especially since I don't like to deep fry. They have a great special with 5 wings, fries, and a drink for lunch. Just the right amount for me - haven't had them in a while however; been trying to do the baked thing. They are good, just not the same as that deep fry is it? ;)

Felix, hope they have something good; but, pizza would work for me. I think you said, that place has pretty good pizza if I remember right.

Shapes way more than me; sounds delicious. I'm still fighting a bug, but OK. Also, trying to use up my freezer items. I really don't like to waste; so, use up those first. Also making room for the turkey and ham coming; and, a pot of butternut soup coming soon.

I actually do like spice cake; I know ... no sweets for me, but that sounds good.

Well, I didn't end up with Subway....nor did I end up with wings. I brought home a sushi platter :!: :!: I'm stuffed already. I have seen this place before, but sorta went, "yea, sushi in this little town!" Well, I was/am impressed!! The food is excellent! The place was very clean, run by real Japanese, and display of the raw food selection(fish) was impressive! I sometimes forget that even though this is such a small town, there is a major University about 3 miles away. Sometimes I find that I am quite surprised if I just take the time to check things out without just taking a dismissive attitude. This was a REAL find. I'll be going back often. I got a sushi platter that included tuna, yellow tail, and salmon...$17. In the less than 10 mins that I was there waiting, over $60 in take out orders were picked up, and there were more "pick-ups" ready at the register. I guess this place has quite a reputation....especially since it was only 4pm

WOW, what a find. I LOVE sushi; and could eat it way more than I do. Delicious. Deep, when you find a place that is packed, eat in or take out ... that is the best sign around. We have a local place that is the same way. Small little place, out of the way; but always, busy ALWAYS!

Sounds good. Glad you found a little gem.
