Back To School Dash....

Yep, it's that time of year again! If your house is like ours, the mornings find dashing out of bed, running through the shower, calling out to the child in varying tones and audible levels, "Are you ready? What are you doing? Have you done x, y, and/or z?" Out the door by 7:15, pick up a neighbor k...

Re: Some side dish suggestions for ...

I didn't read through the suggestions but what popped in my mind is grilled asparagus. I buy a bunch, break off the woody ends, throw in a pan in a single layer, drizzle some olive oil (I've used veg oil in a pinch), sprinkle with salt, and roast in oven around 350 for 15 - 20 mins. I bet you could ...

Re: Rinsing Chicken

I've noticed some chefs rinsing chicken on cook shows. I don't see where it would make a difference as the water isn't hot enough to kill any bacteria so as to make it safer and doesn't add (or detract) from the taste. The only time I make it a point to rinse is after a salty brine. I guess it's jus...

Cake From Scratch...

I admit, I've done A LOT in my life. Some the usual stuff, graduated from high school, graduated from college, paying a home mortgage, got married, had a baby, raising a child... Then some NOT so usual stuff such as went flying off of a carnival ride  , had my tonsils removed while wide awake...

Re: Reassurance, Please...UPDATE!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Thanks to all the great suggestions, the party was a HUGE success! I ended up frying 3+ dozen chicken thighs and chicken legs - two cast iron skillets, hot summer day, all day! I went to the first dance recital smelling like a giant fried chicken!!! Made a cro...

Re: Reassurance, Please...

I think that's a great menu CM, I would increase the chicken a little though ;) congrats on you DD's dance recital! Thank you, Kitten! You don't know how much it means to me..I kind of think of you like my "Mom" in cooking as my mom passed away in 2010 and you know how sometimes you wish there was ...

Reassurance, Please...

Hi All, Our daughter is having a dance recital in a few weeks and has been asked to be in the grand finale (huge honor). So...being the proud momma I am, I've invited lots of people to the recital and then to our house afterwards for a meal. THEN I went and announced I'd be serving my yummy fried ch...

Re: Need Cookbook Help!!!!

The only thing wrong with this scenario? I would be entering hundreds of recipes as I always find another one I would love to try one day! I agree, Dissie!!! Do you think there's a 12-step program that might help us recipe impaired (too impaired? hoarders? over-reciped?) folks like us??? Yes,...

Need Cookbook Help!!!!

As I'm sure most of you can relate to, I LOVE cookbooks! However, because I have so many I forget which cookbook has this recipe or that recipe that I want to try and when I try to go through them to find that one recipe, I just find several more recipes I had forgotten I wanted to try. I'm ...
