US Thanksgiving - Cooking or Eating w/Others?
Are you cooking the feast at your home or are you bringing something (what?).
Here is what i am making this year:
My usual Maple Turkey with gravy, mashed potatoes, a sweet potato souffle (new recipe to try out this year), broccoli casserole (old fave from a cookbook), cranberry sauce (homemade), whole wheat honey rolls. I am making a small turkey and the fixings will all be half portions, since we don't need massive amounts of leftovers. Stuffing will just be Stove-Top this year, since it makes a nice small portion.
For dessert though I will still make the normal amount of pies: Pumpkin (using fresh pumpkin), with a homemade gingersnap crust. Pecan, with a homemade graham cracker crust. Lemon Pie with a lemon cookie crust (also homemade). The crusts re all just my own favorite cookie crust recipe that I change to fit the filling.

I'm doing Tink's Roast Leg of Lamb, Galley Wench's Roasted Cauliflower, my Felix's Green Bean Casserole, my Grandma Unrath Salad with Grands buttermilk biscuits, a jar of sweet & sour red cabbage, and for dessert a pumpkin pie mom made for last Christmas that I found in the freezer a couple of weeks ago. Still debating on baking a couple of sweet potatoes (I just wrap them in foil and bake them, then serve with butter, salt and pepper), but I'm thinking probably we'll have plenty of food already.

I know, according to the internet you can't keep a pie that long. The internet lies. We've done it before, and they're fine.

Well, that changed and I will be cooking here but taking it over to a friends. His g/f had to drive up to WI this week as her Mom is in the hospital due to a stroke. His g/f's sister and just driven down with her daughter to visit for the Holiday. G/f and her sis drove home, so the niece is staying here. So, I offered to bring dinner to him, since he really doesn't cook. He is also invited his best friend. So, now it is 3 adults, 1 8 yr old I think.
Dinner, basic roasted turkey, spiral baked ham with a current glaze; plenty of herbs, orange, onion in the cavity; homemade gravy; my favorite basic homemade stuffing; mashed spuds; green bean casserole; a small baked corn pudding; pumpkin pie; home cranberry; rolls (I will buy those); and yes ... homemade butter. I'm going to recruit the neice to help me.
Yes, a 16 lb turkey, and a 7 lb ham; was planned just for me. Lots of leftovers for the freezer and lots of meals. But I always do that. Besides for $20.00 I got both. What a bargain.
I am also going to make 6 mini pot pies with some of the turkey to freeze as well. They are great to pop in the oven for a quick dinner.
