Magazines? Outdated or do you still love them?
I cut wayyyyy back on the amount of magazine subscriptions I used to get. I am debating on whether or not to renew a few of the ones I still get.
I have subscriptions to:
Bon Appetit (love it, I want to keep this one)
Game Informer (just renewed, mainly kept for discounts on games)
Martha Stewart Living (a gift from my dad)
Taste of Home (not sure if I will renew or not)
Eating Well (not sure if I will renew, considering switching to Cooking Light)
Family Circle (not renewing, not replacing with anything)
I actually use and love Bon Appetit, so it is the only one for sure I will keep. The others I might flip through once, but I am not using them as much as I used to. Taste of Home still catches my attention with some issues, but I just don't know if I use it enough to keep subscribing.
I wish I could afford to subscribe to BBC Good Food - which I adore. It is extremely expensive to get in the US though, so I really can't justify it. At least they eventually post most of their recipes online.

Cooking wise, physically I subscribe to:
Taste of Home (on the fence - like you, some issues are great, some are kinda meh.)
Cooking Light (recently subbed and free through My Coke Rewards; the household soda addiction must account for something. Plus I get free e-mag on iPad with the sub.)
Food Network magazine (much like ToH, some are great, some issues I could care less about.)
We also sub to Game Informer; the print copy is so much better than the online option.
On the iPad:
I buy Everyday Food from time to time; it's a dollar cheaper per issue ($2.99 vs $3.99)
From the magazine stand:
Beadwork
Bead and Button (these two are every 2 months)
Southern Living, but lately I've been buying them on the iPad because it saves physical room in my ever growing cramped apartment and I can buy them earlier than the newsstands.

Besides Smithsonian, we get Everyday Food from Martha Stewart. I swear I make every recipe! We get Guitar World and Playboy, too.
I always read "The Interview" and "20 Questions" in the Playboy... I have no idea what my husband is interested in... haha!!
I got a cheap subscription to Self magazine, but I have no idea what to do with the information in that book!

Michelle_Minicucci wrote:I still love magazines! However, the new Smithsonian format is on my nerves. It seems every article is two pages long, and ends with "check out more on our website". I want to hold the story in my hands and cuddle with it on the couch. Not squint across my desk while ads chase me around.

I think buying a subscription is the way to go because you can get the 55-60% off the stand price, that's not a bad deal though

I might ask my dad to switch the sub to Cooking Light instead of Martha. Her magazine is lovely and has great ideas - but I rarely end up using them. I have tried some of her recipes, but most of those I can either get online or copy from my mom's sub when I visit her. Mom treasures all of her Martha issues - I think it is her favorite, she gets a lot of mileage out of them. I find myself forgetting to even flip through the latest issues, eventually looking some of them over a few at a time. Dad gives all of my sisters the same magazine, and my stepmom loves it, so I have not felt comfortable asking him to switch the gift. It isn't like I don't enjoy it, I do - I just wouldn't subscribe otherwise.
I most likely will end up with Bon Appetit, Game Informer and Taste of Home. The others I will let slide once the sub runs out. Cooking Light is still making me think some more - I used to live by that magazine and cherish a lot of their recipes.
