I used clams and it is the first time I have made clams though I have eaten them as a very young child but dad would just steam them and couldn't really remember what it was like so when I saw the clams I just knew I had to give them a go and this recipe was full of all the flavours I like with the exception of the cilantro/coriander and mint which I omitted, think it would go great with mussels or similar types of shell fish.

Geez...Apparently I can't even tell the difference between clams and mussels!! 
AND...the recipe says clams. Yikes! I guess I should pay more attention!
We live so far inland that we do not get any fresh fish or shellfish...only frozen

Love my seafood and love it fresh when ever possible but that said I have frozen fish in the freezer from when the DH had a big catch and we are slowly getting through it but he has to limit his seafood, when he starts having to much he gets a bit iffy in the gut, his father who used also love his seafood and was similar as a young man is totally allergic to all of it, if he should accidently have some he ends up with a massive gut ache.

How awful for your DH and FIL! I get down to the coast (Vancouver) a couple of times a year and head to Steveston where all the fishing boats come in and get enough fish & shellfish for my visit. It was there that I had fresh tuna for the first time...nothing like the canned. Do you live near the coast?
