Re: What's Up Today
It is just so tinder dry and we have so many forest areas next to residential developments
Lots of smoke but we are still very safe

What a vacation that was Mikekey. I would not of been able to relax in that situation.Mikekey wrote:Bergy, I know what that is like. We had to cut short our most recent RV trip last week to Eastern Washington because of all of the wildfires in the area we were in. Smoke got so bad we could hardy see, like fog, and it was like an eclipse of the sun mid-day. We woke up the last morning with a covering of ash on everything, with some rather large pieces of burnt timber mixed in that the wind had carried about 15 miles from the area burning. And it was nearing 100ªF so we decided to come back to the west side of the mountains, where it was only in the high 80's.Bergy wrote:There are 126 forest fires burning in British Columbia. None are in our immediate vicinity. The nearest one is just outside Kelown (Mt Bouchiere) - that's an hour and a half's drive from here but boy are we ever getting the smoke! Not right down to earth but low enough that we can really smell it. Smoke and high temp are not a good combination. We are supposedly cooling off starting tomorrow. I hope we get some rain for the fires.![]()
Yesterday a wildfire flared up near Leavenworth (the Bavarian style tourist trap-er I mean town) on the Eastern slope of the Cascades and we could see the huge cloud of smoke 100 miles away, above the mountains, in Seattle.

The fires in BC and Washington are so out of control. So far until a lightening strike is close to home we are fine. I hope you are safe too being on the other side of the mountain.
All it takes is a rouge wind!! Fingers crossed Cheers Bergy

We are safe on the west side of the mtns. but the areas burning on the east are some of our favorite places to RV in. We go over at least twice a year to the Okanogan valley and the Columbia plateau. (we were there last week and cut the trip short due to smoke)Bergy wrote:Mikekey Mother Nature can be so cruel to us but no worse than how we have dealt with her in our stupid past.

Keeping fingers crossed your area in the B.C. Okanogan stays safe.

It has burned 165,000 acres so far. This is one of 4 major fires in Washington now with not much relief in sight, High winds predicted. You are right, Wolfgirl, we need some rain.
That is a bad oneMikeKey. Am I right that you are on the other side of the mountain and safe? Those poor families.
Our Smith Creek fire is 50% under control and most of the evacuated families ( That was a total of 1700 families) are now allowed back home with a 10 minute evacuation notice.
We had a ton of rain overnight, sunny today with some smoke drifting back but see it not smell it today.
