Deer Hunting Season-Beware-Pics

Post by Dissie » Sun Nov 04, 2012 9:57 pm

Sorry if this post offends anyone!

My brothers and their children are really into deer hunting. Honestly, seems most males are, here in MN. I had forgotten how excited everyone gets!
Anyone else have family that is nuts this time of year for hunting?

My mother has wooded acreage and the boys (brothers) and their boys ( nephews ) have great fun this time of year. My mom had a house full of hunters this weekend. 3 brothers, their wives and kids all came. My hubby doesn't hunt. But maybe the "boys" will start to persuade him to participate.

So far, my nephew Joey and my grand nephew Caleb each got a deer. It was a big thing for Caleb as this was his first year hunting! (He is 10) He was so proud. :D Almost too hard to live with after his deer this morning. He was so proud, and his daddy was pretty proud too. His older brother Nick was fit to be tied, (he is 12) and hasn't gotten one yet. ;) He will....but he will have a week to dream about it as his younger brother rubs it in!

So Bea, I am going to be looking over your recipes as they always share the bounty and I am going to be having plenty of venison to eat in the near future as they always share. :D

Anyone else have deer hunters out there this weekend? How did they do?

Nice looking bucks!! It's been a while since anyone in my family hunted, but I remember the fever. Regular firearm season here isn't until the 15th, but I do have several friends who will be going. With any luck at all, I'll be able to get some meat this year...it's been entirely too long since I've been able to make chili, and I really wouldn't mind some butterfly steaks, either. :D

One of my friends has been bow hunting a couple of times, but he hasn't gotten anything yet.

Felix, chili sounds so darn good! I am so excited for the meat to be back from the locker plant!

I hope your friends have a good year hunting this season. It really is a delight to have that fresh meat. And its organic! lmao

How the heck did I miss this post Dissie

What a great catch that was 8-) Woohoo....

I should dig up some of last year's pics.

I just love venison. DH is not so keen on it. He loves the hunt but only eats it when it is mixed in with something else....

The camp the hunters stay at has the deer visiting daily, they feed them apples and they keep coming. They don't shoot those deer as they are in the city. They only shoot the deer they see while hunting in the bush. The locals feed them year round and they become pets. Last year at a local residents mail box there was a big cardboard sign for the hunters saying "Please don't shoot Betsy, she is wearing an orange vest" The deer actually let them put an orange hunting vest on it

These are the "City Deer" (Not very clear as it was foggy out.)

And these are the "Bush Deer" the one's the hunters shoot

Do city deer taste different from bush deer?

I'm from a family of avid hunters too! I have a few young female cousins that love to hunt also. My family of hunters make alot of deer sausauge, steaks and burger. I grew up eating all kinds of wild game. :)

Heck, opening day of squirrel season is almost considered a National Holiday where I grew up!
