I have been unhappy with every kitchen in every apartment I have ever had, because this is what I grew up with. Hidden behind some of the cupboard doors are metal drawers for root vegetables, a bread box, and a lazy susan. Over the bread box drawer is a slot where a huge wooden cutting board lives. The shelves in the cupboards next to the oven (what we always called the baking counter) all roll out for easy access since that's where we keep appliances. Most of all, I cannot live without this much counter space, much less fewer cupboards than this. 
The counter between the stove and sink is where I take pretty much every plated food photo I've ever posted. There's a pocket door between the refrigerator and baking counter that leads to our laundry/utility room. Next to the oven is the doorway to the living room. And as you can see, the dining room is on the other side of the stove.
Pay no attention to the mishap we had with some oven cleaner and the finish on the wood drawers underneath. ;)
