Want Forum Topics on Home Page?

Post by RZ-Admin » Wed Mar 08, 2023 6:17 pm

Currently, the home page only lists 4 forum discussions under the "Our Newest" > "Forums" section.

What do you think about giving more visibility to forum topics on the homepage?

Also... While we're at it...

Do you like the "Load More" button on the homepage? Or would you prever automatic loading when you scroll?

Yes, please.

And I would much prefer automatic loading for scrolling on my phone!

I would rather have where it says "FORUMS" be a clickable link to the forums.
And the same for things like recipes, reviews, and photos. Without having to click a topic to use it as a shortcut, which can distort the views count. Which is less important to the users as it is to admin. You might want to see what kind of topics get the most hits when deciding to trim forums or add new ones. Many users on a topic is relevant info, but one person viewing a topic ten million times isn't relevant info, IYKWIM.
If I can just get the shortcut by clicking "Forums" that's good for me.
And makes the stats more accurate for you.

I have been trying to keep our library forum going, while there are online reviews on the books when we search I find most of my best reads are books suggested by friends/members with similar interests. These days I do see to great reads here but it's down to just a few members which has me find most of my books are suggestions from friends on face book. Perhaps a little promotion on home page would see it back to the active forum it once was? Just a suggestion.

"Load more" is actually a tactic to increase pageviews. It's good for Zazz.

Definitely not great for search returns though as I heard it increased search views from one page to only 3-4 tops. Which if you are on page 4 of Google that is good.

When f.c went to infinite scroll, I was never able to see all my posted recipes again. At some point the page just hangs and crashes from the massive weight of pages on top of it.
And reviews I wish I had kept in that cookbook there. It felt redundant at the time. Now they are near impossible to access.
So infinite scroll is really bad from the user end.

Thanks for all the feedback!

We added a link to the forums on the "Forum" title like Sue suggested.

Also started doing automatic load more with scroll. But it's done in a way that doesn't break the "load more" tactic to increase pageviews.

It sounds like the bigger issue is what we actually show on the homepage and how it matches what users want to see.

For seasoned users like the ones here: What do you use the homepage for? (i.e. discovering recipes, just a starting point, etc.). Do you visit the homepage or your profile page more?

Basically trying to figure out: Is the homepage more for seasoned users? Or is it more what we present to newcommers?

If I see the same content at the top as yesterday, I move on pretty quickly.
There is a common complaint on Facebook where they keep showing users the same thing. Don't be like FB.

I think the only time newcomers won't use the landing page is when they have a direct link to a recipe.
