Lets get talking!

Post by Dissie » Sat Nov 03, 2012 3:02 am

I was away for a while due to moving and then summer activities, came back and no one seems to be talking....

So...lets start talking! How do you organize your recipes? Do you keep them in a box? Online? Or have a file on the puter?

Do you have a file on your desktop?

I would love to know!

Personally I do all of trhe above. OMG I guess I am unorganized, but in my head I know where they are...how do you do it?

Edited to say: no one word answers, please explain why you do what you do....
after alll, lets get to talking and getting to know each other a bit!

Dissie it is so great to see you back again. I'll bet there will be a lot of talking when Phase 2 opens up.
I save my recipes on line in Zazz cook books. I just hope that the cook books will transfer over to phase 2

It's so good to have you back Dissie :P

I have all my recipes saved as word documents (with photos as I take them or some other member takes them) on my laptop and on a memory key (backup). As I try new recipes I type them up if i like them and I add them onto my laptop. They are are categorized in different folders and sub-folders. So I guess you could say my laptop is my "Cookbook"
I love organizing things and recipes are part of my organizing hobby

Thanks Bea! It really is great to be back! :D

I love the way you organize your recipes. I need to start doing something similiar. Having them all over isn't organized at all!

I have to "chuckle" sometimes at Heather, as I feel like she often is. Can't find a recipe and start panicking! ;) Love ya Heather, just saying I know how you feel when you can't find a recipe you just "have" to have. :)

Hi, Dissie!

I'm not here much any more because so many of the boards seem moribund... Sad.

But organizing recipes... You mean people actually ORGANIZE them??!!!

Let's see... Of course there's the cookbook bookcase in the kitchen, with bookmarks, margin notes and end page notes.

I've got lots and lots of them filed in the computer as text files. These tend to be the ones I use a lot. I used to print one out when I was going to make something that needed a recipe (cookies, for example) and then I slapped my forehead and said "Hey, doofus, print once, use often." So I started my "kitchen binder." A big 3-ring binder with a plastic, washable surface. I got a box of 3-ring plastic sleeves, and some section dividers. I've started, as I cook them, printing out my recipes and adding them to that binder. I've sorted them into categories like "meat," "pasta," "veggies," "cookies," etc. Because they're in plastic covers I can either lay them on the counter or, what I usually do, grab a piece of tape and tape them to a cabinet door at eye level. When I'm done the tape comes off and back into the binder it goes. This really works for me, but YMMV.

I also have a HUUUUGE number of web site recipes bookmarked in my "recipes to try" bookmark folder. That folder is nestled inside my "After I Retire" folder. And, YAY!!!, I'll be able to start getting to those come December 1. Yep, I'm retiring 6 weeks before my 67th birthday. And I JUST CAN'T WAIT!!!

I hope you're well and happy! (((hugs)))

Hiya Marion, it's been a while since I have seen you here. It has slowed down in the forums. We used to chat much more at kittencalskitchen's forum. I don't know why we stopped :?: :?: I do miss everyone.

Only a few weeks left before you retire, you lucky gal!!!!

Marion, it is so great that you are going to retire and be able to organize your recipoes!

I tried the 3 ring binder thing, but it doesn't seem to work for me. Not sure why either! :?

I have got to get back into photographing what I cook too. I used to be active over in that forum, and haven't photographed anything lately. I made a kickA%% casserole today and it was half gone before I even had the afterthought of I should have taken pics! It was daylight too! :o

I feel like I should start my own cookbook on crockpot recipes as that seems to be 75% of what I make now. (Atleast it feels that way!)

I have missed chatting with you guys! Come on people, lets talk more!

Where has Jelly gone? She was a big chatter!

Dissie, if you're a crockpot pro I may start nagging you for some of your recipes! I love mine, but it's mostly used to stew chickens for chicken salad (and all that yummy broth) and a pork loin roast that we love.

Do you use a pressure cooker? DH got me one, but so far I've been too much of a coward to use it. (All those horror stories of stuff all over the ceiling...!)
