When I get to my car with a basket full of bags, I put my purse in FIRST, then the bags. While you have your head down, putting the bags in the car, your purse is in the cart. Someone can grab your purse in a hot second, before your head even comes up.

I guess DH and I are unusually careful, probably because DS had his wallet snatched at the grocery store a couple of years ago. Neither of us leaves a wallet or purse in the car, and I don't leave my purse in the cart at the store.

I'm one of the dumb ones. I leave mine in my car in my own town while pumping gas but take it with me to pay.

I leave my purse in the cart and turn my back. I've even walked off.

I leave my keys in the car but only at home. No excuse, we live in a small town and on a farm.
Sometimes our vehicles need to be moved and farmers that use our land need to move it and just get in and do it. No problem.
Could hide a key in the garage for that purpose.

We also don't lock our doors to our house. :o I do 50% of the time when Bill is gone.
When he is home he don't.

I know! I know! I better start.

I left my keys in the ignition the whole time I lived in my small home town in MO. How else would you find them? We didn't lock the doors to our homes either. Obviously the key is on the key ring in the ignition  I had never heard of anyone stealing a car until I moved out of state when I was in my 20s.
