Grain Mill

Post by Crocus » Wed Mar 28, 2012 9:52 am

I just bought a Tribest Wolfgang grain mill. Super expensive but after a lot of research it seemed to be the best one to buy. So, it just arrived yesterday and I ground some wheat and made a loaf of bread in my bread maker. I used one third of my whole grain flour and two thirds all purpose (I know this is going to take a little getting used to as I don't like whole wheat bread all that much). The loaf rose very well and tastes great. Previous attempts with purchased whole wheat flour (and using only 25% of it) made bricks. This loaf was gorgeous and tastes really good. I will increase the amount of whole grain flour in future loaves and hopefully develop a recipe that works using it alone.

I decided to buy a grain mill to give us healthier baked goods and because I really like to be less dependent on the regular food supply. We don't grow our own grain anymore but I have friends who will gladly trade a bushel of wheat for a couple of dozen buns.
