WELCOME to our potluck party!

Here in Canada we are enjoying our Canada Day long weekend. Happy Canada Day to everyone celebrating along with me. The US will be celebrating on the fourth of July. Looking forward to seeing your favourite holiday recipes.

Canada Day sees to fun packed events planned in cities and towns across the country as we celebrate Canada's 146th birthday. In most cities, towns and small communities July 1st is for most part kicked off with pancake breakfasts and parades followed by planned activities, picnics and potlucks. And of course fireworks!

Long weekends at our house sees to family gathering, deck and garden parties with potluck meals. It's no secret that I love potlucks! Saturday enjoyed wonderful ribs and sausage on the grill. Yesterday a lovely day in our back yard garden. We did steak, Beer Can Chicken and grilled corn. The chicken was awesome, done to perfection. Will be begging for that recipe! I did note it takes a lot of basting but so worth it.Unfortunately by the time I found my camera it was to late to get a photo. Next time.

Today I'm thinking to good old fashioned burgers on the grill and potato salad.

If you are planning a party be it a casual get together, community or church supper, family reunion or a little gathering in your back yard, join us in the sharing of ideas, photos, and recipes. Come on in it's party time! :D

I recently put together prep on an afternoon grilling cookout for Bill's work when they all went to a mini-golf which has a grill.
I didn't take the photos myself. I also didn't have much time to put this together as I didn't get to even shop for the foods until around ten pm the night before (grrr) and had only about an hour to do the prep and bake the cookies.
Here is the menu, which was for about 15:

Italian Grilled Chicken sandwiches with basil mayo
-----chicken breast marinated overnight in italian dressing, grilled and served on buns with lettuce and basil mayo
Teriyaki sausage and vegetable kebabs
-----This was smoked sausage, mushrooms, zucchini, red onion and multicolor bell peppers on skewers, grilled and basted with a teriyaki glaze
Plain teriyaki vegetable kebabs which I was going to have tempeh on, but store didn't have it and it was late- no admitted vegetarians showing up anyway
-----same deal, minus the sausage
Ensalata Caprese
-----assorted red and yellow grape tomatoes with fresh mozz and a basil-balsamic vinaigrette
Cucumber, Onion and Radish Salad
------Sliced veggies marinated in a simple sweet dill vinaigrette
Potato Chips
Watermelon- sliced
Assorted baked cookies
beer and pop

All the prep can be done ahead: marinate chicken, prep basil mayo, prep lettuce, slice sausage and kebab veggies and soak skewers, prep the 2 salads, and bake the cookies.
At location, chicken starts grilling, finsish prep on the kebabs, skewering the meat and veggies, then grill and baste those. Set up the tables, pan the salads, chips and baked cookies, slice the watermelon and put in a pan. All pretty fast. All travels well in coolers. I got foil disposable pans to put the foods in; easing to dispose afterwards with no mess to transport.

You had to have been one busy lady Sue. Everything looks so good! Needing that cucumber, onion and radish salad recipe and your marinated vegetables. One can never have too many potluck recipes. :)
