I need beef liver recipes

Post by Dissie » Tue Jun 25, 2013 9:47 pm

My beef is finally going to be in this week. They offered me tongue, heart and liver. I asked if I had already paid for it and they said yes. I said only liver please. I love liver and onions, but family doesn't. I have a great recipe for that already, my moms. Need other recipes to use it up, I paid for it, need to use it! Could boil it up and give it to the dog I guess! But counting on you guys to give me recipe that even dh who won't even try it will eat!

Guess I am can ask around at work, see if anyone ikes this. And give it away. My mom said no, as she still has some and its just her...She bought her own 1/4 cow, so has liver too. I like it, but liver being so rich, its hard to eat more than one night. Leftovers would go to dog, and that's leftovers of what I DON"T eat, cuz dh wont touch it.

Hey, Dissie, I too love beef liver....if it's sliced thin. Most of the stuff I see in the grocery stores anymore is to thick for my liking. Anyway, I have never done this, but I once ate a beef liver stir-fry prepared by someone else. It was to die for. You're a pretty creative cook, and I'm sure you could make it work for you. Sorry, I don't have a recipe, but it seems to me it would be pretty simple :D

Stir fry sounds good for liver. Waiting for Bergy and Derf to weigh in. It's something that people used to eat alot, so maybe they have recipes. Sorry ladies, not trying to call you old, but thinking you could have older recipes for this meat. It used be used all the time. New generations have stopped appreciating it. I do like it!

Dissie, I'm surely the "older generation, too :D I just wanted to steer you in a different direction dish as opposed to liver and onions....I love it. Oh, don't get me wrong, but if a had an abundance of beef liver, I would certainly want some new recipes. ;) I know there are also some great curried liver recipes out "there".

I'll ask the kitties, LOL. They are the only ones who eat it here.

If you don't overcook it, it will be fine.
Why not put some soy sauce based marinade (rumaki marinade?) on it to help cover the odor then drain the marinade and cook it in the skillet for a few minutes on either side, maybe in a little bacon grease.
It's when you overcook it that it tastes really bad. It doesn't have to be served with sauteed onions and beef gravy.

Derf, I like both those recipes, just shared them with my mom. She said interesting....doubt she would try the orange one, I will try it and let her taste it. My son will eat it, but I don't tell him what it is. I make it and say its beef and onion gravy on mashed taters. He does like it, he just says, its hard to eat a lot of it. (I know, I am a bad Mom for lying to him). He is 23, not a kid, so its not like lying about trying to get him to eat his veggies!

Deepster, very interesting to make it into a stir fry. Hmmmmm That might work splendidly, as you could just cut it into small pieces and it might not be so rich to eat in a sitting.

Sue, you made that sound very interesting. I could call it that indian name and maybe hubby would be clueless?

OH rumaki is polynesian. OK so I could say its an appetizer, wrap it in bacon and cook it on the grill as a kebob?
