Welcome to Cooking Questions, my lovely friendly fellow hosts and I are here to try and help you with any queries or problems you may have. Please don't be shy to ask, we all had to learn somehow!

Ninya - I have been a Professional Chef/Cook for 37 years for my sins :shock: and still, just about, going strong so have learnt quite a few short cuts and troubleshooting ideas.

Dreamer in Ontario - Hi. I've never been a professional cook but I'm an enthusiastic amateur. I cook for a carnivorous hubby and a veggie daughter. Those challenges have taught me a lot about cookery.

Cooks42 here! I am passionate about cooking and have spent many happy hours in my kitchen, preparing meals for my loved ones.I'm so happy to be here and hope to meet all of you soon!

Well I can honestly say that my big bug bear is shortcrust pastry!! I can make flaky, puff, hot crust, choux but my shortcrust is very similar to plastic :oops:

Probably gougeres. My stove really isn't the right height for the constant stirring required.

For me it's anything that requires a lot of manual dexterity and artistry like piping decorations on anything. It always seems to end up looking as though a small child did it.

I'm with Dreamer I would have to say piping also I basically have given up on cake decorating a long time ago I just have never mastered it :?

Can I freeze a cake?

We do not have enough people in our house to eat a whole box cake in any short period of days, SO, I want to know if I can make it, cool it, cut it in 1/2 and freeze half? My husband loves a certain Duncan Hines cake (Orange Supreme) but it is big. I hope that I can solve my problem this way.

ALSO, I may be missing something, but I did not see a way to start a new topic here. Instead, I did a reply and changed the subject line. I must be crazy

BigD cake freezes really well, only thing you would have a problem with is any real cream filling.
