I always get the edge to come up with a knife, then grab hold of it with a paper towel. It doesn't give me a problem. If it does tear off like a roll of tape, losing the edge, I just get the narrow edge to come up with the knife and do the paper towel thing again. I always get a good grip with paper towel, and don't yank up too fast but use gentle steady tugging.
