Winter Potlucks - Share Your Favoutie Recipes

Post by Gerry » Mon Jan 21, 2013 4:00 pm

Winter is a great time for hosting potlucks, it's a great way to turn winter weekends into fun time with family and friends. They can be as big or as small as you wish, planned well in advance or an impromtu "I have a big pot of chili simmering on the stove and bread in the oven, would you like to bring a dish or a salad and do potluck after the game?" It's that easy and it's fun.

You don't have to wait for special holidays or the large family gatherings to enjoy potlucks, anytime can be potluck time. It's a wonderful way to combine good company with good food, a time for family, friends and fellowship. Share three of your favouties and help make our Zazz PotLuck second to none! Photos welcome.

Potluck time at our house! Our ladies provincial curling championship starts tommorow with the final on Saturday. One of my choices when we gather for the weekend final is one of my favourite potluck pleasers. http://recipezazz.com/recipe/sweet-and-sour-meatballs

Missed making http://recipezazz.com/recipe/festive-cr ... -crab-cups over the holidays, it is on for for Saturday's Potluck. Another of our favoutites.

Be sure to come on in and share the recipes that are winners at your house.

Gerry, how I wish I had wrote down the recipe. I just brought pinwheels to a work potluck. I will try to reproduce the recipe in the next few weeks. They were that good. We left a few at the house, (The ends basically after slicing) and everyone loved them. Potluck doesn't always have to mean a "hot" meal does it? We had plenty of salads and desserts.

Love pinwheels and love variety which has me looking forward to that recipe of yours Dissie. You are so right in that potluck dishes need not be just the hot dish. Appetizers, salads, breads, desserts all add to and round out the potluck table. The list is endless and surprisingly it always seems to work out! :)

Going through recipes this morning reminded me of Linda's Scoopers. They are super easy to make, a real winner, the kind that make for recipe requests and one I'm adding to this weekends game day appetizers. If you have a potluck coming up these scoupers make for a great crowd pleaser.

We arent really doing a potluck at work on valentines day, but its more of a cupcake gathering. I am hoping it will be awesome!

We have a potluck once a month at work. I guess I need to start posting what I bring and whats brought in this forum. I will take pics too! :D We just had the last one, started off as a chili cook off type of thing, but it evolved into just a potluck. We had beef stroganoff, chili's, potato salads, several pasta salads, my pinwheels, 2 different wild rice casseroles....so many other things. Lots of sweets. It was good and fun.

The last couple of times, I brought noodle salads and deviled eggs. I easily could seal those in tupperware and just pop in the fridge. My crockpot is huge, and egg shaped, so didn't want to lug that in. Plus it has a glass lid, not allowed at work. I just bought me a new one that is round and smaller. I figure it will work easier for me to bring in casserole type things. I work in a factory that makes snack products, so we have strict rules on what can come in to the factory. Has to have a plastic top and can't be open at all to contaminate anything. My current one only has a glass top or a rubber topper for the fridge. The new one has a plastic lid. Very strict rules on what can be brought in for lunch. No paper bags, has to be in a cooler type thing...purses are allowed, but nothing open. Sitting here thinking about our rules, it just makes sense and honestly its common sense. People rely on us to be accurate on allergens. If we say no dairy, it has to be no dairy, so we can't have employees bringing in dairy uncovered or whatever. Just makes sense.

Just thought of another thing we are very careful of, peanutbutter. OMG if you bring that in, such as a sandwich, its fine but you have to sign a paper saying you ate it but washed your hands after. STRANGE at first, but now its normal to me. This factory gets an "A" every year and its serious about the rating. There are only 2 factories in the country that gets A's. We have gotten it for 25 years they say....been here 7 mos. so I will take their word for it. we make chips/snacks for lots of places you buy these. Target, walmart, etc....

This weekend saw to some great curling. I was all prepared for the final on Saturday then found the semi final and the final were both on Sunday afternoon. Good thing there were plenty of leftovers! A new to me Saskatchewan team which impressed came out the winner. Our Saskatchewan team will be playing for the Canadian championship come mid February, the winners then on to the World Finals. That is two weeks of woman's curling! Then another two weeks of mens. Going to make for one a lot of potlucks!

Great to see you joining in Dissie! Anytime we get together and share our offerings makes for potluck be it cupcakes, appetizers, cake and coffee or meals. Looking forward to hearing all about your Valentine get together at work. Should make for some great cupcake recipes, potlucks are a great place for recipe finds. Your workplace sounds like a happy and safe place to be working.

Will have to look for more ideas for my next potluck which is a 21st birthday. Mom and dad are hosting and I will be making some make and takes. There will be eight or so of his univerisity friends from the city joining us, some which we have yet to meet, but know we will be happy to have with us to celebrate his special day. Soo we will be wanting to have some great food rounding out the birthday table.

If any of you are having a potluck be sure and share you food choices with us! Always fun to see what others are making for potluck parties.
