WHAT'S FOR DINNER - JANUARY 2014

Post by Kchurchill5 » Wed Jan 01, 2014 2:56 pm

Morning and HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2014

Hope everyone had a nice NY's Eve.
Some relaxing, football, and a nice dinner is all that is planned.

My chipped beef ball to snack on; then, baked ham, spud salad, and baked beans.
Something we usually had on NY's day growing up.

I forgot to start the January Threat. So here is Felix and Deepsters dinner plans.

I also have a pot roast slowly doing it's thing on the stove, so that'll be the bulk of my meal.....carrots, potatoes, celery and onions...Mmmm, Mmmmm!!!

I didn't get to my prime rib today as targeted so it will be a special meal for tomorrow.
It got backed up by Tandoori chicken, which had got delayed, and I had that with Indian tomato rice for lunch.
I had thought I would have reubens for lunch but that is delayed until tomorrow.
So end result being todays eats:
Tandoori chicken and Indian lemon rice
Dinner:
Choucroute garnie

Tomorrow:
lunch- reubens
dinner- prime rib, roasted veggies probably brussels sprouts, and potatoes, probably hasselbacks.

I can relate to "delayed" Sue. Had a lot of that lately, trust me. Still, everything sounds delicious.

You can always catch up. I had the week planned out too; but, found out today - plans will already have to change.

My cooking plans are notoriously easily wrecked. Sometimes at the last minute I change my mind about cooking and go out on a whim.
At least the choucroute garnie and the Indian turned out very nicely- can't say the same for the pickled herring I got which was a different brand and I didn't care for the texture.
I am glad I got my cooking done today- my back was giving me fits and my neck has been acting up since last night. I've been on mild pain meds and trying not to think about it.
Eating well takes my mind off it so at least I didn't have to feel terrible and then have an awful meal out somewhere. Most restaurants aren't up to snuff. I was telling Bill that I don't recall eating out being like that say, 30 years ago. It seemed that back then most everything was delish. Now most everything is...not. And pray they don't give you food poisoning.

Same thing, except since they're leftovers and it's January 2, we'll call it Skippin' Jenny. :)

Morning,

Well, I hope everyone had a nice NYs day. I took it easy, watched some football and enjoyed the day. Back to normal today.

And, no cooking today. Happy hour w/friends at our fave Mexican place. They have great appies at HH, and we usually 'pig' out. So, I doubt I will make dinner. Make a cold meatloaf sandwich, or a fried egg sandwich if anything.

I'm doing leftovers from last night's pot roast. This is fine comfort food for me. It's going to turn brutally cold tonight with some snow expected. Whatever brings comfort, I'm there ;)

I got my prime rib and twice baked potatoes done at dinner and reuben sandwiches at lunch.
Tomorrow I may bake some fish and have it with leftover tomato rice. Sides either more tossed salads or something like roasted asparagus. I like asparagus with fish a lot.

Sounds like a feast Sue ... prime rib is so good! And a reuben ... seriously, my all time favorite sandwich.

Deepster, leftovers are good. Nothing better than a roast, stew, etc the next day.

Tomorrow is cold here 63ish. COLD for FL, since today was 80. A friend is in town, and I know she will want to eat outside on the deck. I will wear my sweats and long underwear, lol.

Enjoy your 60s, Kc. It's already down to 16 here and the snow is still falling. All is white, but I don't really think we're going to get a major storm. Winds are gusting up into the 40+mph range. It's COLD!
