Well, I reckon we will have the brats we were supposed to have on Thurs :D Sat night, easy night, eat late. Hot, steamy old day, but we had about 2 inches of rain last night, it was spectacular. Good chance this evening as well!

Tonight we are eating the leftover shrimp pasta, dammit! Seriously! Last night I forgot mom was going out, so I ended up getting distracted by a book and ended up with a doctored frozen pizza.

Definitely I'll be on crutches for vacation, but I'm OK with that. I'm going with my niece's family, and we've rented a cabin on a lake up north. It'll be way easier this time than the last time I went on vacation with them on crutches (we went to Chicago).

Ninner, I can't tell you how much I hope you get some relief from the heat! It's weird that we're so close together, but you're not getting even the few breaks we have here.

I tried something new ... Poutine. I know, I have never tried it - shame on me.

Well, my PIA neighbor returned from WI last night and brought me some wonderful sausage and fresh cheese curds from a local sausage company. They look and taste delish.

So, today, my g/f called and asked what I was doing. I am doing her wedding in Aug, so she wanted to drop by some ideas and said she was bringing some bangers that were leftover from last night. I like those, so I said sure. Then I had the idea to do something with the curds. Poutine!

Now, I did cheat, because I wasn't going to the store; so OreIda frozen fries, but I did pan fry them. They turned out nice and crispy. The curds, I had both white and sharp, so I did 1 plate, split it half. And gravy ... I used a package gravy, but added a bit of wine, herbs, to get rid of that package flavor. It actually turned out good.

So, a couple of bangers, and she left me 2 as well and the poutine. I'm stuffed even though I didn't make too much, boy was it rich. Her b/f came the last 15 minutes and finished it off for us and he never had it either and he was hooked.

WOW, was it good. What have I been missing? Not that I would make it often ... doesn't exactly scream healthy. But it was such a nice treat. We are watching the road race on the olympics, so it was really fun.

Definitely a poutine convert!!

Felix, what type of surgery. I know you said arthritis; what are they going to have to do. Crutches are not fun. Trust me. 2 broken feet, not ankles and many weeks on crutches. 12 months for one and this last one; I will still need surgery, so I am not looking forward to that.

Sorry, about that, it isn't any fun; but if it helps, then it is worth it.

Trust me, I am entirely too familiar with crutches. I've sprained my ankle at least a dozen times, and two years ago I spent 10 months on them when I screwed up my knee.

He's going to clean out the affected joint (the one where my big toe attaches to my foot), snip off three bone spurs, and then trim the bone back to make a gap in the joint where there currently isn't one. The idea is to end up with me being able to actually bend my toe more than 5 degrees either direction from level without excruciating pain.

I like this guy's office, though! They wrote me a prescription for a knee walker so my insurance will pay for it, and also handed me a form for a temporary handicap permit. :D

Morning All!

Been a crazy am already. Walmart, Home Depot, yard work (and yes, it is hot - 90 already and 96 heat index), pool, laundry; and in for a bit to cool off and watch some of the Olympics I recorded. Road Race right now.

Cooked up a few things this am already; but now I will be in for the rest of the day, catching up on a few things. A lot to do.

Dinner:
Well, a g/f stopped over last night - unexpected - (doing her wedding in Aug); so ramen noodles became dinner at 10pm. I added some of my dehydrated carrots, peppers, onions and fresh peas. It was OK. I'm not a huge fan, but at 10pm, I wanted something easy and NOT too heavy.

So tonight: my salmon poached I was going to have last night; rice with broccoli; and roasted carrots

And ... I guess all my meals will be 1 day late this week; but that is ok. Just bump up everything.

NO rain still. and NONE expected for the next week. We definitely need some.
Olympics are recording all day and will be on in the house on all 3 TV's, so no matter what I am doing ... I can hear or see it.

I'm leaning toward something with smoked sausage, but I'm not sure exactly what. There are no fresh vegetables other than celery, so I'm gonna have to get creative. I really wish I had a jar of sauerkraut, but no luck there, either. Might just end up cutting the sausage into hunks and pan-frying it, and serving http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/kidney-bean-salad and http://www.recipezazz.com/recipe/creamy-grape-salad.

Morning,

The Canadian Open is now over & what a wonderful last day it was. Today everything will start to be dismantled which will take several days. I will not miss the traffic or the closing of roads.

I have been enjoying the field tomatoes that have arrived. We live on hot house tomatoes for 7m of the year. Over that period of time you forget what a fresh tomato tastes like.

I have a party to attend this afternoon & I am sure food will be served (lol). I do have leftovers, bacon & tomato sandwiches, shepherds pie & 2 grilled steaks. So that should hold me for a couple of days.

Dd arrives Wed early afternoon & I will start cooking Tuesday as there will be no less then 10 guests for a late lunch. One dish I will be making is the pasta dish that Denise recommend with the fresh basil & sausage.

The weather is cooler but the humidity is still 100%. They said it would rain on Sat. which did not happen. As of tomorrow the temp will start to rise again. I was able to get the pump fixed in Dd's bedroom window so one less thing to worry about.

Felix, when you say you are headed North to lake/cabin does that mean you will be in Canada or the USA?
