Dis, a night out is a good thing! Glad you had fun.Dissie wrote:Wow you aren't kidding Sue on the cheese! YIKES! I like cheese, but thats overkill! I would probably bring a baggie and take some of that cheese home!![]()
My cousin is visiting, so we went out for supper. Pizza Ranch. I ate mostly chicken and mashed taters and salad bar. The pizza is ok, but I can't do all that crust sometimes. Would rather eat broasted chicken and mashed taters.
Sue ... cheese - OMG; that is cheese for a week. I still don't get the cinci chili; but; I know a few of my friends won't eat any other chili, lol.

Where did the weekend go.
Another gorgeous am here. Low 60's - nice, and the low 80's for the high. It was beautiful yesterday. Perfect yard day.
Dis, salads sound good. My garden has tons of lettuce right now; so, that is definitely on the menu.
Lady #1 and #2: Snapper w/caper sauce; homemade rice pilaf; pan sauteed carrots, parsnips, and celery
Me: Baked buffalo chicken wings (classic sauce) w/dip (I mix ranch w/blue cheese crumbles); and, rather than fries (which I would love) - chopped salad w/carrots, celery, radish, onions, tomato, cucumber, greens, w/Italian vinaigrette.

Yeah, they put on a lot of cheese. It comes on really little plates too, and you might think it first it won't be enough, but in the end I am always stuffed.Kchurchill5 wrote:Dis, a night out is a good thing! As far as chili goes, it is not like Texas chili, not even like usual chili. It's called chili, but it shouldn't be compared to other types. I think of it in a class by itself. The seasoning flavor reminds me of moussaka. And I LOVE moussaka and pastitsio. So comparing Texas chili and Cinti chili is like comparing moussaka to lasagna. SImilar, but different things.
I still have to be in the mood for the stuff. In St. Louis we liked roll chili which comes in packs like sausage. I got one this summer down at Findlay market- could not believe my eyes that I was seeing it. Had not seen it outside of St. Louis before. And that type is typically good for chili con carne the way most of us know it. Typical midwest style. Have you guys ever had roll chili? The brand we got this year was Usinger's but I think in St. Louis it may have been Mayrose. Or Field.

Sue, I Make an "Empress" Cinc'y Chili. An old recipe my husbands uncle passed along to him, years ago. Love it.Sue wrote:I believe the original does, although it still proprietary. The guy who made it was working for Empress and then when he got his recipe polished, opened up Skyline. There have been quite a few Cinti chili restaurants since then, especially older ones when chili diners were more popular. Now it is mostly Skyline, which is like a McDonald's. There is Gold Star but they are mostly food court fodder. And the others are scattered around Queen City, mostly in older neighborhoods if they are still open. Some have closed, like a lot of older restaurants.lovinretirement wrote:Some of the recipes I've seen, does have cinnamon. Others do not. I guess it's just your preference. Mine does not. But it sure was good!!

We had a chili festival down here a few years back. And, you could go to each booth and sample. I must of had 50 types of chili all different. It was fun however.
Sue, ROLL CHILI, that's a new one for me.

Someone forgot to take the wings out in time yesterday. At 8pm, still frozen. I was starved, and really didn't care.
Ended up with Gourmet Ramen,

I added frozen veggies to the chicken ramen - mushrooms, peas, corn, onion and pepper mix. And, I did add fresh parsley for the green,

But, I did eat some grapes for something healthy.
Back to my baked buffalo style wings tonight; and, a big chopped salad.
