Step 1: I use a tall frying pan or a dutch oven, and I pour in 1 to 1/2 inches oil. Heat to 375 degrees.
Step 2: Beat egg, oil and milk together until blended well.
Step 3: Add 1 1/2 cups flour, salt and baking powder. Mix well. Batter will be thick.
Step 4: Coat the sliced onions in flour and shake off the excess.
Step 5: Test the oil if you don't have a thermometer by dropping in a small amount of the prepared batter. You want it to float pretty quickly. If it doesn't, continue to heat until its ready.
Step 6: Dip onions in batter and place into hot oil carefully. You will have to do these in batches, so they don't all stick together.
Step 7: Turn over the battered onions after a minute or so, watch closely as they will brown quickly in the hot oil.
Step 8: Remove browned onion rings to a plate covered with a paper towel to drain grease. Salt them while still hot. Continue to fry batches.
Step 9: Enjoy!
