Ingredients

  • Whoopie Pies:
  • 1/3 cup Crisco
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups white flour
  • 6 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • Filling:
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup Crisco shortening
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

How to Make

  • Step 1: WHOOPIE PIES: Mix Crisco, sugar, and egg till fluffy; slowly add milk and vanilla and mix well.

  • Step 2: Add the flour, cocoa, soda, and salt; beat well.

  • Step 3: Drop by spoonfuls on ungreased baking sheet and bake in a 350 degree oven for 7-10 minutes. Meanwhile make filling.

  • Step 4: FILLING: Using a jar for a shaker combine the milk, flour and salt; shake well and put into a saucepan and cook slowly over medium heat till very thick and smooth, stirring all the while; cool.

  • Step 5: In an electric mixer put the the crisco, sugar, and vanilla and beat about 5 minutes; add the cooled paste and beat it for about 5 minutes more till very light and fluffy.

  • Step 6: I turn the mixer on high and beat for quite a while; it is worth it; fill the pies and put in baggies.
