Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons oil (cooking oil, use as little as you can)
  • 1 yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 1 stalk celery, chopped
  • 1 green pepper, chopped (optional, small pepper)
  • 2 pounds ground chuck (I like the 96% lean)
  • 1/2 cup ketchup (can use a little more if you like)
  • 3/4 cup barbecue sauce (I like Sweet Baby Ray's)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

How to Make

  • Step 1: Cook celery, onion and bell pepper in the cooking oil until tender.

  • Step 2: Add ground chuck and brown.

  • Step 3: Mix ketchup, barbecue sauce, water, brown sugar, dry mustard, Worcestershire sauce, vinegar, salt, pepper and nutmeg together. Add to browned chuck mixture.

  • Step 4: Simmer, uncovered for 45 minutes (stirring occasionally) until mixture is the consistency you prefer.
