  • Step 2: APPLE PIE FILLING:; in a bowl toss the apples with lemon juice.

  • Step 4: CRUMB MIXTURE: Prepare two separate bowls for the crumb mixture.

  • Step 5: In each bowl place 1 cup oats, 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed, 1 cup flour, 1-1/2 teaspoons cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon baking soda; toss to combine.

  • Step 6: To each bowl mix in 1/2 cup melted butter plus 2 tablespoons melted butter; mix well to combine, then finish mixing using your hands until the mixture is crumbly.

  • Step 9: Sprinkle the apple mixture over the crust, then sprinkle the remaining nut topping over the apples (do not press down).

  • Step 10: Bake for 40-45 minutes or until apples are fork-tender (to test this stick a fork into the apples after about 35 minutes of baking to see if they are tender).

  • Step 11: Serve warm with vanilla ice cream
