Step 1: Peel and dice yam; steam until almost tender; set aside.
Step 2: Heat butter in large skillet.
Step 3: Add onion and cook until translucent.
Step 4: Stir remaining ingredients (including the cooked yam) and simmer on low heat for 15 minutes or until the yam is cooked through.
Step 5: Garnish with yogurt or sour cream.
Step 6: Serve as is or over basmati rice.
