  • 5 pounds russet potatoes (or Yukon Gold)
  • 1 teaspoon salt, or more to suit you taste
  • 1 cup half and half (warmed)
  • 1/2 cup butter, cubed

How to Make

  • Step 1: Peel and cut the potatoes into cubes. Put potatoes in saucepan, and pour in enough water to barely cover them. Bring to a boil, and turn heat down to medium. Cover with a lis and cook until fork-tender, drain well and put them back into the saucepan.

  • Step 2: Add salt, butter and warmed half and half. Mix with potato masher or electric mixer until smooth and creamy. If needed add in more salt.
