Step 1: Slice cheese and tomato. Sprinkle with a small amount of balsamic vinegar and allow to "marinate" while you prepare the rest of the sandwich.
Step 2: Spread mayonnaise on the inside of the bread slice that will be the bottom of the sandwich. Then layer the cheese, tomato, and basil - cover with the other slice. Apply a small amount of mayonnaise to the outside of that bread slice.
Step 3: Melt the butter in the skillet, place the sandwich in the skillet and grill. Flip to the other side (the side that has the mayo) and grill until golden.
