Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 40 ounces potatoes (5 large red potatoes, thinly sliced)
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream (33-35%)
  • 1/2 cup half and half (can use milk)
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt (or white salt)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper, or to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (or to taste)
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese, grated (can use a little more)
  • 2 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded (divided)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  • Step 2: Set oven rack to bottom position.

  • Step 3: Grease a casserole dish.

  • Step 4: Spread the sliced potatoes into the baking dish (does not have to be in one layer they may be placed on top of each other)

  • Step 5: In a bowl whisk heavy cream with light cream, onion powder, garlic powder, flour, cayenne, seasoned salt and black pepper until smooth and well combined, then mix in 1-1/2 cups old cheddar cheese.

  • Step 6: Pour the cream mixture over the potatoes.

  • Step 7: Using a spatula or clean hands lift up some of the potatoes slices to allow the cream to flow underneath.

  • Step 8: Sprinkle Parmesan cheese over the top then 1 cup old cheddar cheese

  • Step 9: Bake uncovered for about 1 hour or until potatoes are just fork-tender (baking time will vary depending on how thick you sliced the potatoes)
