Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/8 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)

How to Make

  • Step 1: Preheat the oven to 350F. Cream the sugar and butter together. Beat in the eggs; add the molasses and buttermilk and mix together. Add the flour, salt raisins, nutmeg, ginger and cinnamon. Dissolve the baking soda in the boiling water, pour into the batter and mix all together well, but do not overbeat.

  • Step 2: Pour into a buttered 9x13 inch pan or bundt pan and bake for 45-50 minutes until a toothpick comes out dry or your finger doesn't leave a dent. Leave plain or sprinkle with powdered sugar and make some home make whipped cream for the side :-)
