Step 1: In a 3 quart soup pot: Saute bacon and remove.
Step 2: Add clove to one slice onion.
Step 3: Sauté onion in 2 tablespoons bacon grease with bay leaf until soft.
Step 4: Add all other ingredients and bring to a boil; add water as needed.
Step 5: Cover and simmer for 60 minutes.
Step 6: Remove bay leaf and clove and season to taste.
Step 7: Crumble bacon on top.
