Ingredients

The ingredients are:
  • 4 cups water
  • 8 ounces split peas, dried (1 cup)
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 clove
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon mint, dried
  • 1 tablespoon parsley, dried
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

How to Make

  • Step 1: In a 3 quart soup pot: Saute bacon and remove.

  • Step 2: Add clove to one slice onion.

  • Step 3: Sauté onion in 2 tablespoons bacon grease with bay leaf until soft.

  • Step 4: Add all other ingredients and bring to a boil; add water as needed.

  • Step 5: Cover and simmer for 60 minutes.

  • Step 6: Remove bay leaf and clove and season to taste.

  • Step 7: Crumble bacon on top.
